Id like to comment and say your right but unfortunatly i think your not. Yes its true the silly season has finished but they are indeed tightening the shackles in all aspects of the business. I enjoy my job but if you seen some of the sales and wage numbers i think you would be surprised.

Especially quality of service. Which flows like a domino effect through the store.

I work at Safeway South Preston and we don't have Nightfill, only some staff early to take deliveries and to do a bit of facing before the store opens...

We do day fill which means lots of longlife staff from morning until afternoon working loads. Doesn't effect me except it can be hard to get a bloody cage to work my Perishables loads or backstock when Versacold comes in mid-day

The budget cuts Woolworths are forcing on their workforce are disgusting. Just ask any managers trying to staff their departments.

The company keeps expanding and trying to monopolize what shopers buy (with their Selects brand) while shafting staff.

Where possible mix up your grocery shopping as much as you can, don't give any one company too much of your business.

Just be glad you aren't me.

I work at Coles and I'm currently getting 2 evening shifts a week, totaling 7 hours, all of which is face up time. :togo:

Agreed mate, its a tragic cycle. They take floor staff to man the frontend (even sometimes DM's like myself) then the shelves dont get filled therefore sales dont eventuate. Its across the board cutting the CODB. Got to be carefull whats said on here though. Its bloody hard mate and it aint going to get any easier im afraid.

Sounds very much like the 'reject' discount retailer I worked for back in a previous life. Constantly cutting wages budgets, God help you if you went so much as $1 over budget.. Having to choose between having a nice tidy store with bugger all stock, or a fully stocked store that was a mess because you couldn't afford both.... 13-14 hour days were the norm there, they wondered why they couldn't keep managers for long.....

Also warning for Bunnings employees who are casual (at least in Victoria), you won't be getting many hours because the recent plan of putting heaps of staff on and the head office covering it, they only budgeted $2 million for it, and it blew $6 million over budget, they're trying to make up for it before the stock reports have to go out so casuals are getting no hours and the people who come up with the plan for the heaps of staff have all been fired. They're running their stores very low on staff too.

The Woolwoths’ at Wheelers Hill is our local supermarket. Considering how much everything’s gone up there in the last twelve months, I’m surprised that they’re not giving you a bloody pay rise.

I spend a fair bit of time at the VLDC in Laverton and at the Barnawartha distribution centre and if it makes you feel any better, they suck as well. VLDC are back to around 2300 inbound pallets a day and if they’re quiet, the checkers and forkies get a bit worried because they know that management are watching them.

Don’t throw it in just yet, at least try to find something suitable first. You never know, rosters can and usually are changed to suit whoever sets them up.

You could always try to find another Woolworths that’s keeping the night fill.

By the way, they made a 1.83 BILLION DOLLAR profit last year.

Also be weary that Woolworths or Lowes is looking into creating a hardware store business to rival Bunnings. That could also be a reason why stuff is tightening up over at Woolies.

They bought out Danks to start the ball rolling. Not a lot has changed at Danks at the moment, from what I can see. I deliver to SIL which is in the same building.

They are going to have a tough time fighting Westfarmers. Some, myself included even wonder if they’ve bitten off more than they can chew.

Time will tell, I guess.

We enjoyed the good times, now for the bad.

I work for a retail company that has fallen into and come out of administration in the last 12 months. I have seen what expensive budgets and gross fiscal mismanagement can do to a company, so these days, and I know you will all hate this, I run my store on a bare bones budget and cut costs everywhere I can. We are given a set amount of hours a week to use and a sales target to acheive, and I use hours relative to that budget, ie if we acheive 90% of our budget, I only use 90% of hours given, no hours are used for the sake of it.

There is too variances that determine what salary you will get like
-Your experience
-Stores weekly takings
-Store managers discretion
-also if you go into a night captain role you are also entitled to the STIP (Short Term Incentive Plan) which means come Sept your entitled to a bonus.
etc etc
That said not every night captain will go onto a salary but that only depends on the store takings, if its a big store id say it will be a salaried position.
