Default Recognise this car?

Just trying to track down any info on this car? I found the photos on a cardomain website a few months ago but it didn't have any information with it.

Anyone know what country those plates are from?

Yep it is a 1978 Ford Escort panel van with NZ plates.

Also hasn't had rego/wof for over 14 years (with those plates anyway).

I left NZ in 1985. Silver on black rego plates were still being produced then. (Christ, you're right - that was a long time ago !!!) When I went back for the first time 2 years later in late 1987 they had changed to black lettering on white - 2 alpha + numeric .

When I was over there visiting family recently I saw that our old neighbour (now in her 80's) who bought a Triumph 2.5 back in 1975/76 , not only still has that same car, but the car still has the original silver on black rego plates - the letters IB + 4 numeric characters

If you can still register cars with silver on black rego plates (i.e our 80 yo neighbour with the Triumph) why cant you register cars with the newer kind, like this Escort van?

You can...

I just put the plates into http://www.carjam.co.nz/ and it gives the rego details, ie no rego since 1996

Old cars with the old plates did not/do not have to upgrade to the newer plates.

Cars bought new since, come with the new plates. It means classic cars get to keep the retro plates .

Just looked at that site and plugged in the rego number of a car I sold in 1985 - seems it was eventually destroyed or became undriveable in 1997 - and had the speedo wound back !!. Thats a great site
