As the title suggests, Thanks to one of THE greatest cricketers of all time. To watch you has been a pleasure and a thrill to many a thousand people. Your batting has been exhilarating your keeping while not THE best has been awesome none the less. Cricket will be poorer without you but a lot richer to have had you. THANKS GILLY !!

I wouldn't get too upset about his retirement, he was a great player for us but i doubt this will be the end for him.
I think he will turn up playing in that new league in india or wherever it is, getting paid better than he ever did for Aus. |

He's only retiring from tests at this point from what I can tell.
I think Gilly is the one player Aus will miss most. No-one has turned more games back in Aus' favour than Gilly with the bat. |

He has announced International test retirement this test and will end one dayers at the end of the Oz Tri series. Will he end up in that Indian game? Who knows.
It will be sad to see him go - such a great wicket keeper and a delight to watch with the willow. On top of that, he is a top guy and drives Fords. Great opportuity for younger players to get int h team

gilly has retired from all forms of cricket. he will play in the upcoming tri series though but thats it apparently.
what an absolute cricketing superstar and entertainer. his work behind the stumps was every bit as good as his effort with the bat. most people only tend to remember the batting though. brad haddin will step straight in but they need to start looking for the next keeper after haddin. |

Gilly is/was a great player, i think Haddin needs to be overlooked for a younger player who can be in the team for 10 years.
I'm disappointed India didn't even try to make it a competitive game, just batted out the day for a draw to lose the series, for gods sake they could have drawn the series if they played to win, could have made the last day into a one day type match, with the fadign wicket it would make for an interesting game...but no. I hope Harberjan gets suspended like he should and India prove they're sooks and go home like they threathened. rant over |

I think Lee sucks. I like Stuart Clark, but my fave bowlers are George Hogg and Andrew Symonds. I like MacGill too because had there been no Warne, he would have been a regular, even if he may not be as good as Warne.
Lee just bolts in and piffs the ball, hoping it lands somewhere near the wickets. McGrath was my favourite because he was so consistent and forced the batsman to play the shot everytime. Lee's go wide and over and under and through. In terms of batsmen, Gilchrist has been the most entertaining batsman by far. His strike rate has been astounding and to have a wicket-keeper who is also a high-order batsman is a gem of a find. He'll go down as the greatest wicket keeper ever due to his flexibility. I hope he does well post-test cricket. I can see him being involved in many things because he has a good personality and good integrity, although that doesn't mean jack anymore...Warne has seen to that.

Sad to see him in a test for the last time, I don't think he had much of a choice though.
We'll miss ya Gilly.

I was at the match on Saturday and it was awesome to see his last innings (even if it was a short one). The whole hill was going nuts with the GIIIIIIIIIIIILLLLLLLLLLYYYYYY chant as soon as he came out to bat it was great to see every one appreciate how much of a legend he was. What was better was when the Aussies were in the field and the hill was still going nuts and he turned around and gave us a few waves it was awesome to see him acknowledge us boozies on the hill....
Cheers Gilly!!!!!! |
