I did a windsor in a GQ many years ago. NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!!!
But I have been involved in a few conversions on various 4wd over the years.
All adaptors and mounts ect for a windsor will have to be hand made as there are no comercially available convesion kits that I know of. It has to be done right to get everything placed like OE.
10 grand???? Even a straight forward 350 with all Marks adaptors will set you back more than that. And don't forget it needs to be engineered to be legal and roadworthy.
Its not the end of the world but the only advice I can give you and this applies to any modified project, is to STAY COMMITED and do your homework before you start.
Too many guys I see are full of beans and ideas to start with but as soon as they realise what is involved they go off half arsed and stop doin things right cut corners and it all goes tragically wrong.

If ya wan't the cheapest option go a stock crate 350 and you can pick up everything you need to make it fit from many different suppliers and then run straight gas or dual fuel. Last one I helped with cost about 12 grand on the road and engineered, inc labour bill.
They are an awesome thing when done though. They really should of had an eight factory cause the chassis more than handles it.

we had a GQ i think (1991) patrol. with the sluggish RB30. the used used to die up a small hill on the highway and was very impractical. so what did we do? RB30DET conversion time. been done loads of times and is a great surprise to unsuspecting 4wd owners.

don't - trade up and get yourself a 100series or, wait 2 weeks and look at the 200seires.
i would stick with the 100 series until 200 proves itself though it should

Done a couple of Landcruiser 40 & 75 series engine swaps, got one the yard to do after the EB2 is finished. Don't be put of by the amounts being quoted as the wiser you buy essentials and the more you do yourself the less it costs. Listen to Blownba's advise about crate small blocks, plenty of uncommitted individuals put their gear up for sale fairly cheap. Marks kits also come up second hand, they are well made and just bolt up. Too many issues to use Ford V8's, especially with sumps etc., can be done but time and money consuming out of all proportion to any gains. Chev kits and detailed instructions are common for a good reason. The easiest option by far is going the way Castek suggested (I used a new 1990/1 Patrol for a very short time too, good off road but couldn't hold a candle to my FJ75 on it) but there's no denying how good a V8 sounds, even a Chev!! Marks Adapters used to have heaps of info about various engines on their website, try there as well as the links above.

gen3 all the way if you want a V8 , there are plenty of kits around and they make good power and are light.

If you just want a power upgrade just efi the TB42 and wack a small turbo on the side. lots of power and not much stuffing around.
mine has made over 200rwkw, no V8 is going to make that power N/A
