I still want to know how the copper actually caught him!!
Think about it, this guy was doing 189k's when the gun was on him, the copper was doing 90. add in stopping time, turning and acceleration times to try and get to over 200k's to try and catch him. Something really doesn't add up unless the guy gave up when he saw the lights in the distance!!!

Interesting debate. Whilst doing high speeds in built up areas is a stupid thing to do, I remember reading an article a few years ago where some states in the US actually worked out it was safer to raise the speed limits - fatigue was a major factor in accidents.
Slower speeds = Longer Trips = More Fatigue Faster speeds = Shorter Trips = Less Fatigue Kind of the opposite of what Oz governments tend to think... |

2/ Yes , but the National road toll was around the "1700" mark in those day's I think (could be wrong) but it was somewhere near there , also a Lot less cars on the roads then too. 3/ May be , but it also gives you a "false sense of security". They still "fall off the road". Quote:

*****A question I've alway's wanted to ask on here ***** How Many people have killed someone in their car ? (come on , own up to it). I Have , a guy didn't "give way to his right" and I "T-boned him" and I was doing less than 100k's on a 100k country road , we were both 20 y/olds .19th Sept 1974 , 33 years ago , "you never forget" Not a good feeling , believe me , looking at someone with blood coming out their eye;s , nose , ears and mouth Still Flinching (sorry about being so graphic, but that is what it's like). I hope none of you invincible guys have to go through it ! Norm.

The Stuart Highway rocks, speed limit is 110 but there hasn't been 1 trip I've made between Mt Isa and Townsville that I didn't crack 180km. A fair portion of this road is dead straight with nothing to each side of it, you can see for miles in all directions and if theres nothing in site why not?
