Did 8 laps at Calder last xmas, had fun but instructor only limited me to 3rd and 4th gear, and made me change up at about 4000rpm, so the car was never really pulling, always felt like it was labouring out of corners. Would have been nice to be able to go back to 2nd and rev it out a bit harder before changing up. And as many have said it's over before you realise so enjoy.

Might have to buy some more laps by the sound of it then, think the voucher is for 5 laps now.

it says somewhere on the info they hand out that a full refund will be given if dvd doesn't work,so hope you will get your money back easily.....but they will not give you a re-run of your laps(that sux)lol

Well I'll let you off for missing the gear then.....lol.....considering your cicumstances....hehehe

Just got back 5 minutes ago. It was freaking insane! The car was very easy to drive, a lighter clutch than my ED (took a lap until I found the friction point, made some interesting sounding changes), sensational grip, engine sounded like armageddon was approaching, but as many others have said, could have done with a bit more poke.

I also found it had quite a bit of understeer, but you could almost flatten it right from the apex, traction control only had to intervene once coming out of the last corner onto the straight. I could have eased off a bit to make my approaches neater and make sure I hit the apex dead on, then build up, but I only had 5 laps so it was go go go. I just wanted to feel the g's.

Top speed? No idea, the speedo was disabled. I did spy 5500 rpm in 4th before braking into the last corner. Anyone know what diffs they are running?

The only things I didn't like were the instructors insistence to brake so early, I know the car had a lot more in it, and that I started half a lap away from everyone else. I caught up to the tail of the pack on the last corner of the last lap :S. Oh, and the hot floorpan melted my volleys.

Would I do it again? Probably not - I've made a rash decision to mod the ED for tack days :p. Hopefully I can get some pics up later when my sister sends them to me.

I did it a while ago. It was ok, but wanted more. Did it at Calder and it was a gift from the GF which I was happy about. I too was just about redlining in 4th which equated to about 180ish.

Ive been quicker at other places, I was more amazed at the grip levels than the speed. I wasn't used to punting a sedan into a corner so hard. I never got the tyres to protest, and you wanted another lap as you knew you could push just that much more.

Worth doing once, not twice IMO.

Thats a good point. Although I was disappointed to find out that they were not really V8SC's, just modded XR8's and SS's. But in saying that they still went ok.

Just calculated my top speed. With the stock 3.46 diff, ~195km/h. Didn't really seem that fast though - perhaps 4.11s? (~165km/h)

Traction control??? I was there this morning too, drove the white/green AU in BA clothing. No traction control on mine - a little understeer but to be fair that was a reflection of my driving, not the car. Too much time racing karts had me finished braking before turning in - this in turn lightens the front hence you get understeer. 8 laps was not enough to define the max braking but I was a happy camper, passed all the cars on the track at the time and got a healthy pat on the back from the instructor.

What time did you drive? May have seen you there. My brief was around 8:40, drive around 9:15. I was the only red head kid around in case you took passing notice.

I had the black/white BA with some pothole company, wasn't really thinking about the livery at the time! I'm positive it had TC, engine was on song coming out of the turn, then just went flat. Once I dropped off and took a second stab, she was away again. Mind you, I've never hit TC on a car before that, so I may be mistaken.

I dare say the understeer was also a result of my driving - its the first time I've ever done anything like that, so probably trying to carry too much mid corner speed.

And the instructor got up me for doing a heel and toe into turn 3 on the first lap :S. I thought he would applaud me lol.

I drove at about 10:30, my instructor was an older fella who didn't comment on me blipping the throttle. He was pretty cool, he just kept saying "ignore these hats, just pass him". Turn 3 was a tricky corner to carry good speed without lighting up the tyre's, first flying lap I was wheel spin all the way from the apex of 3 to the turn 4 braking area, instructor called it "out of control" - I called it "fun". It's been a few years since I've done any racing, I got the drive day as a b'day gift - actually I got 2 and have the other one booked in for a fortnight or so.

Got the bug started again, might need to pull a toy out of retirement ;)

same, mine was a birthday pressy from the missus and mates, but the car wouldnt pull over 170km on the straight at eastern creek, and the instructor just wouldnt shut-up, he was a bit annoying, but it was still fun, i'd do it again if it was free!

Not quite "the" V8 experience, I was amoung a group of Motor Magazine subscribers selected for a Ford drive day at Sandown just after the BA was released. Drove the GT, XR8, XR8 ute, XR6 and ST170 Focus. A bit of skidpan work and quite a few laps in the V8s. Didn't do the XR6 Turbo as it ran out of fuel in the middle of the track! GT sounds awesome tearing down pit straight with back windows down
Want more!
cheers
Bill.
