I've noticed a couple of 'job threads' in this section lately.
Besides delivering pizzas, are delivery drivers expected to do other additional work? i.e cleaning, taking phone calls etc. I suppose I could call up dominos and ask them... But I'll see what my fellow forumites know first. :Reverend: |

Yes.
Been there and done that. Do not use your falcon for it, you wont make any money. But I guess most big companies these days offer a company car. I didn't do it for a huge company, a medium sized one though, and yeah I had to do everything else aswell, serve, clean, cook, etc etc

managed a dominos for awhile, theyll start u off on dels and dishes, then phones and counter, then depending on how much u want 2 work, theyll chuck u on the late shifts and ull b cleaning a crap load, or the morning shifts where ull b prepping the nites toppings and makin dough. its a good job if the ppl there r good, otherwise its crap.
company cars r only meant for ppl who have their p's for at least 1 yr, if u havnt and u drive it and crash it... well its a pretty big problem. ur car insurance wont cover u while ur workin, and the insurance they provide, u dont want 2 have a crash. the excess is about $1600. nemore questions pm me and ill try 2 answer them 4 u |

Bosses there were pr!ck$ too, scoffed out on staffy pizzas and only offered the workers some when they couldn't scoff any more. I thought it was a "cash" job and would get paid at the end of the night - was dumfounded when I had to wait a week to get paid but had to fill the fuel tank every day out of my pocket (I was on the dole). Only did it for a few nights and quit. |

two things come to mind when thinking about places like dominoes...i worked there and if you show initiative they'll love you and you'll go far...but also how can you soar like an eagle when you are surrounded by turkeys

The only way I can think a 6 cyl would be economical for delivery duty is if it was on LPG.

I used to deliver newspapers in my EA back in my uni days. But yeah it was on LPG and so was the XC sedan I had before it. I would have racked up about 50kms by the time I had finished my route. And flinging those Saturday Ages and Sunday Herald Suns (Melbourne) would kill my arm sometimes.
Wouldnt want to think what the 3V would drink doing that. But then when I started I had a 302 powered XA coupe and I had money to spend after so...

When I worked for Pizza Hut we were sub contractors so we looked after our own tax, insurance and have an ABN. Actually, insurance was fun. Policy was the car had to have full comp coverage, the catch was since you use the car for work it is considered business use so your normal policy won't cover you. And to get business use coverage you need business rego! The only positive about that is you can then claim running costs on tax, in some cases at least. I left after 9 months, ran out of cars! In that time I learnt that most staff have NFI about real work, some managers are crooks, Mazda build some very tough little cars and ricers can't drive! Oh yeah, my wife also drove for Pizza hut, for 6 YEARS! We used:
Me-Mazda 121 Metro. 12 months old when I started. Some times did 1000km a week, 2 tanks of fuel. 1 set of tyres, 1 head light globe only replacements. Rolled it. Mazda 323 wagon. 1 set of tyres, 1 clutch cable and 2 engines. Left after I blew the second engine. Wife-1990 Magna and 1985 VK Calais. Thank god the VK is the EFI 6, she nearly bought a V8! My advice, forget drivng as a job because you think it's fun. I'm a courier now and it gives me the shits some times. If you want to earn a little play money I would pack shelves. |

Dont know about working in a pizza shop, but a little off topic, anyone notice how small the pizza's are becoming these days.. A large deep pan pizza from Pizza hut at knox, is the size of a small from another place around the corner.. And they charge like triple the price...

I used to do Pizza Hut delivery. Each stores might be a bit different... but I also had to fold pizza boxes, fill up fridge with Pepsi, Mountain Dew etc etc... tidy up delivery bags. Of course u wont have time to do that when all hell break loose. |

yeah i worked dominos not long ago.... in victoria... not good management and the pay is ok but the fairlane doesnt use the same amount of money as they give u per delivery.... that is $1.50 for every deliver and max i would gt as 6 a long night+tips./..and tippers arent soo generous in my area..... ended up quitting after my first pay slip which was 4 months later..... the main reason was becos until then i was using my own money to deliver and it was costing me to work.... not a ood idea working and going into debt.... :(

Yeh I used to deliver pizzas for Pizza Hut. I dont agree with everyone saying you must have to be 'desperate', etc, etc. A jobs a job. I needed money so I worked for it.
Great career move to quit a job and go on the dole Falchoon...... Anyway back on topic. My car constantly smelt of pizzas! Not so good when you were a hungry student. But I was driving a 4 cyl at the time - and sure you get $1.50 fuel allowance per pizza - I dunno bout anyone else but I'd be taking 3/4/5 pizzas PER TRIP - so I thought the fuel allowance was quite alright really. In fairness this was when fuel was like 50c a litre and I was driving a 4 cyl firebreather..... If you are still thinking about it I say give it a go. As others have mentioned - yes you do other things than deliver (unless you are on a Friday and Sat nights and its busy busy busy). Things like mop floors, make boxes, stock fridges, even cut/box pizzas. |

some stores have company cars, some dont, if the store is franchiseed, then prob not, they r expencive 2 run and reapir and repair and repair and repair. u do get paid hourly + per del, but if u do end up workin 4 a store that has a company car, and u do get 2 use it, ull just get the hr rate |
