Depends what she put on the application form, at the end of the day the primary card holder is responsible for ALL the debt, so who ever they give another card to (with the primary card holders permission) is not really the banks concern.

But even so, I'm with Virgin, and when my partnet applied for a second card, she still had to provide 100 points of ID...

This is an area of prudential concern.

The woman mentioned they asked for proof of ID to be produced, but sent the card anyway.

They were alerted to the problem when an unusual spending pattern appeared - repeated purchases of goldfish and canaries at a major pet store.

Haha, great point!

Yes, it could easily be classed as fraud... good luck getting the police to chase up a prank like this tho. Even the "real" frauds dont receive too much attention.

The 100 point id requirement is (amoungst other things) an anti fraud measure.

Imagine if it wasnt a cat that it was issued to... but a terrorist....

This could also have a cat-astrophic effect on an otherwise purr-fect budget for the cardholder, leaving her very little left in the kitty.

I can see that cat having a wish list:

Deluxe scratching post/play gym $1000

Aquarium stocked with your favorite fish $1500

Having an owner stupid enough to give me a credit card and therefore pick up the bill.............Priceless

Unless you have express authority to do so, "testing the system" amounts to fraud. I'm pretty sure the cat didn't sign the application.

Maybe the cat is pursuing a career in Internal Audit? Or, you know, maybe just has an interest in operational risk issues.

the card would not be active until the id was provided.. apparently, thats what i got told from a guy that manages a bank.. and as been said she is the primary card holder she's responsible for the debt and she signed the approval for the cat to have a second card..

they make it sound like the cat has a credit rating and got it's own card..

100% agreed - get a life...you've had your 15 seconds of fame.

How do these people end up in the paper???? Are they friends of lazy journos?

I might go and do a few petrol drive offs just to "test the system"....wonder how that will go down
