Default LPG falcon in drive.com

Jsut reading the artical in drive about lpg.

I noticed a couiple of quotes, i dont understand. can anyone help me?

"Ford is already looking at a new system to produce marked improvements in power and efficiency."

"Holden has just released an LPG version of its new VE Commodore, although unlike the Falcon (which is powered by LPG only) Holden runs a dual-fuel system - you need both the petrol and LPG tanks, which takes up space.
Holden's fuel-injection system is superior to Ford's older, less efficient, carburettor style system. "

"The Ford system is the cheapest available because it is a single fuel system and does not have a petrol tank or duplicated fuel lines.

But the manufacturer has been handed the thin end of the wedge in the Government's rebate program. Because it is factory-fitted, the Ford system only attracts a $1000 rebate, while Holden's LPG system for the new Commodore, which is installed off-line at Holden By Design, carries a $2000 rebate."

I wonder if the govt has approved the $2k rebate on the Holden given that they would be new cars not converting older cars the $2k rebate is intended for.

The Holden gas system is newer technology as the injection type systems have only been around/emerging in the last few years whereas the Ford system is the same one that has been used for decades. There are significant power & especially economy benefits although at this stage it is a more expensive conversion.

The Ford being dedicated gas is a different issue, it is a decision Ford has taken.

You will find more info in the LPG tech forum.

1. Ford is looking into developing a SVI system.
2. Holden had a Dual Fuel VSI system on VZ also.
3. Cheapest in that its only an additional $800 or so on top of the Base XT price.
4. $2000 is not for new cars, but old cars being converted.

Thats correct, being a new car the Holden dual fuel system will have the same rebate as the Falcon E Gas cars.

Yes but its a few years off

2. Holden had a Dual Fuel VSI system on VZ also.

Yep at $3500.....ouch

3. Cheapest in that its only an additional $800 or so on top of the Base XT price.

Its free if your a private buyer ATM, an additional 1300 or so for fleet

4. $2000 is not for new cars, but old cars being converted

Pay back point on a duel fuel Omega is about 65,000 klms (3,500 up front cost is a killer plus it still uses some petrol to start and under power which you need to factor in, not to mention Holden dealers attitude and depth of knowledge when it comes to LPG - they sublet it to LPG shops which takes time and costs money)

Pay back point on a e-gas falcon is about 22,000 klms (1300 cost and dedicated lpg makes it a winner by far on paper, add to that quick delivery, knowledgeable dealers who have been handling LPG Falcon since 1999 and solid resale)
