Default Another how much thread!

Sorry guys, I know how much these threads annoy some people!

I'm looking for another car and hoping to buy in the next few weeks. It will be a Falcon wagon of some description and while I'm leaning towards a BA2 or BF Futura wagon, I'm also toying with the idea of another AU3 wagon, but this time a Fairmont V8.

I can only find one for sale at the moment, but there is no way I'm spending the amount they're asking. For that money I'd prefer to get something newer or more desirable.
AU3 Fairmont V8 wagon

So, anyone have any ideas of what a nice clean AU3 V8 Fairmont wagon would be realistically worth? Would like to keep kays under around 120 or so too.

I would be inheriting our existing AU, so that means more mods, woo hoo!

Realistically I wouldnt pay more than $12k for an AU3 V8 Wagon with those sorts of kms, maybe $14k max if it was a really good example of one.

Good to see youve woken up to yourself about V8's though :hihi:

Thanks Austin! 12k max is roughly what I thought too.

Haven't quite woken up about the V8's, this'll just be the sleepy family bus.

I'm not 100% convinced yet that the conversion is the way to go in the other car though!

Easy to mod

Yeah, but I'm lazy

I am a V8 fan though, hence the last family barge being a V8, so it's up between a series 3 AU V8 wagon, or a BA/BF I6 wagon - I think I know which one I'll enjoy driving and owning more!

Well, went to the auctions today and had a look at a heap of BA's. Even though I've driven quite a few of them at work, because it's not that often and because it's not my car, I never really paid that much attention to them.

When looking at them today, I can't help but feel that in XT/Futura spec anyway, they just feel sooooo much tackier and cheaper inside thatn the AU does. I'm by no mean saying the AU is a glamour inside or anything like that, but in my eyes, the BA's just looked and felt awful inside to me.

Although we're still mostly steering towards the BA option, today's eye opener has made the S3 Fairmont V8 option all the more appealing....

Nah not yet mate. Looking to get something in the next few weeks though. Went to the auctions on Saturday, and for the price BA2 is looking like the most likely contender.

Mate we got a BA v8 ghia, and the interior in that looks/feels like a tax!!!i(It could even be called taxi grey),I rate my AUII SR wagons interior way ahead of the BAs for materials and finish even comfort believe it or not,in fact,I generally choose the wagon over the ghia to go on family outings sorry to say!!!!!!!!!!Dont get me wrong it handles better and is alot quicker than the old wags, just doesnt really do it for me.

yeh Get an AU V8 wagon if you can find one reasonably priced.

I do understand what you're saying actually! After looking at a heap on Saturday, and then hopping in my 5 year old worn and dirty AU, mine still felt like the more expensive car if you know what I mean.
Yes quicker etc etc, but interior wise, I really hate the BA's.

But, your last line is the real sticking point - nobody has any cheap S3 Fairmont V8 wagons advertised - they're all asking silly prices over 15k. For 15-16k our alternative is an 05 or 06 BA Futura wagon with 20k or so on the clock.

Just because they're asking $15k, doesn't mean they'll get it. About 3 years ago, a guy on car sales wanted 18k for his AU2 Fairmont V8 Wagon - I offered him $12k. He said he'd keep it rather than sell it for that. He ended up getting just over $10k for it about 18 motnhs ago.

With the price of petrol, and it being a V8, you have plenty of bargaining power - use it! Offer $9k, and I reckon you'd get it for around $11, or walk away. No harm in trying, and you can always leave your details if they get desperate.

Dealers will only keep cars for 90 days before wholesaling them off, so if you can find out how long the cars have been on the lot, make an offer now, and if that's not accepted, then monitor it and towards the end of the 90 days, make a lower offer. If they happen to sell it before the 90 days are up to someone else, good luck to them - but it doesn't mean you have to pay sticker price for it.

Haha, yeah I haven't paid sticker price for a while now for any car (and I've had a few!)

There's no way in hell that I'm paying what the AU V8 Fairmont wagons are being advertised for at the moment, I think my cut off would be around 10k, after that, I'd rather pay 5k extra and get a near new BA/BF with minimal kms on it.
