Default Ebay sports steernig wheel

Has anyone put a "sports" steering wheel on there AU? My MOMO steering wheel is a bit worn out and i was thinking about replacing it. Maybe with something like this:

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Formula-ONE-C...item518f9b503f

It says it needs an adaptor kit. Does anyone know where to get the adaptor kit and wat type i need?

depends, do you want your car roadworthy? if you fit that, it won't be. It is illegal to permanently remove or disable the airbag in a car that came from the factory with one.

although they are a lot more expensive, something like http://cgi.ebay.com.au/FORD-FALCON-A...item4a9b6fab30 that is what you need, so the airbag can go back on.

now, on the other hand, if the car is used only on a race track and not road registered, any wheel you can find will be ok

Are these the same size as the MOMO wheels on the AU XR's? Cos im looking for a smaller sized wheel kinda like the FG XR's or B series FPVs....

Actually do they fit? The b series FPV wheels and FG wheels?

No offense mate but i'd suggest going another MOMO, majority of aftermarket look cheap or don't suit the car. It's not exactly a big steering wheel either and IMO nothing looks better on an AU.

+1

Agree 100%, and I don't even have a MOMO, but if I was ever going to get another steering wheel, I'd only settle for a blue MOMO!

I've got one. Bought it when they were $100. I think JC got one around the same time.

I haven't owned a Momo variety and agree that they look better. I doubt very much they'd be as comfortable on a long trip. We do lots of long trips and I'd buy another autotek in a flash if mine was damaged.

Size compared to standard Fairmont steering wheel as follows:-

Diameter 308mm standard - 309mm autotek
Circumference of grip 110mm standard - 130mm autotek.

I like the smaller "chunky" FPV wheel and other small sports wheels better than my momo from experience

Fair enough, it's too bad the FPV wheels don't fit or suit the AU as they are great. I wouldn't really say that any other aftermarket wheels look or suit the AU well at all, but that is completely subjective.

Whatever you do end up getting keep in mind you'll probably want your car roadworthy or at least not an easy target for a defect. Plus the airbag isn't there for looks! ;)

I agree it's subjective but I'd say the autotek suits the black leather interior of my ghia, pretty well. Certainly a better match than a red or blue momo.

Whilst I'm here folks, I got the diameters around the wrong way in my prev post
ie standard 309mm - autotek 308mm.
Grip circ as prev posted

Zhodak is selling a Roman Autotek item. JC has one also and says it's the most comfortable wheel he's ever used. In fact the wheel follows him from AU to AU to EL to AU! LOL!

PM JC about it if you like, or dig through the For Sale items, you will probably find it there.

Okay I did some digging for you. Here it is.

The larger automotive stores sell these (autobahn, supercheap). I picked one up for my EB a few years back.

The Autotek wheel for the AU is a BA GT wheel/rim, with AU centre. Most comfortable wheel in the world - EVER!!!

Didn't need my post above then, did I??! GK is right though - love my wheel - enough that GK now has my old Momo one in his car.

You can get 2 autotek wheels for that price. $465 plus postage is almost what Ford used to charge when the AU was a new model (actually, they charged around $800, or $1100 if you wanted woodgrain)

I agree 100% with the previous comments regarding legality issues, plus the au momo wheel fits the feel of the car to a tee. At first I thought it looked too big until you get behind it! The adapter they are referring to is called a boss kit, but I don't believe anyone manufactures one for the AU anyway...

The only thing I don't like about the autotek wheel is the small logo on the bottom of the front of it.

How does the silver insert look in real life? Does the silver look cheap and out of place or does it fit in with the rest of the interior?

I would prefer it without the silver (don't notice the logo at all) but it's such a good wheel that I'll suffer along. It doesn't look out of place imo.

You can get a bit of an idea from here:- http://www.aufalcon.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi?act=item&i=30

Autotek wheesl are the best. They make the GT/Sports wheel for the B series, not Momo. Momo wheels for B series are all crappy, skinny wheels with no chunky bits, even the optional colour ones.

Momo for E series/Au are better but not as good as Autotek chunky ones like in that link, and a great price too.

I hadn't looked at the link before, ooh, what a wheel!! Not stylish at all really.

You can't get away with a $25 wheel in a modern air bag equipped car. Your choices are wheels supplied by Ford on their model range of which Autotek make the best ones, and you're lucky they make one for your car too.

The days of buy a wheel and get a boss kit are over. I did that in my XF but it was a nice wheel I put on.
