Ive snapped my muffler off from the pipe cause it was hitting on the axle after I got it lowered. Welded it back on then had the pipe reshaped a week later, the exhaust guys didnt touch where i re-welded and its fine. Depends how bad the rust is though and if you can get a good weld on it
