It's not a bad idea. Think of the amount of paper that can be saved. I know it's probabbly recycled paper, but it's still a waste. I have the white pages and yellow pages apps on my phone and if I'm looking for a number I'll just use google if on the PC.

But I think it should be upto the householder to contact Telstra to be put onto a list to still receive these

The Yellow Pages use to be a substantial part of Telstra's revenue. They also bought the Trading Post at exactly the wrong time

the yellow pages will continue to earn big $ but many don't need a paper one , I can't remember when I last used a paper phone book, online is far better as you have the ability to access australia wide ans still search for a very small area.
I'm no greenie but I still see the amount of paper in phonebooks as a huge waste

About time. I had mine delivered, and it went straight into the recycling bin. Didn't even open it, I just took the shrink wrap off it.

Same with the Yellow Pages.

The Trading Post was killed (to a degree) by eBay. Who posts something in the Trading Post these days, when it is so much easier to lob it onto eBay, and pay for the add when you sell your item.

I can honestly say i have probably only opened the phone books (white and yellow) only a handful of times in the last five years, the current set we have are still in the protective plastic they came in months ago....

My Dad is still old school. He was very angry at the death of the Trading Post newspaper, as he refuses to have an internet connection.
Even on the rare occasion he asks me to look up an outboard motor, or old vehicle manuals, I am instructed to ask for a phone number so he can call them, as he won't put any financial details online.
(My Grandmother had $70,000 stolen from her bank account before she died through mail fraud, and then had an internet account set up in her name to try and get more money out)

He also has every Yellow Pages book for the state, and Eastern capitals in the office. I've offered to look things up online, but it takes just as long as it does for him to find it in the book.
He whines that computers are far too slow, and eventually cracks it and walks away.

The only time the internet has really been useful for him, has been when we've had jobs to odd places, and used Google Earth to have a look at where we needed to pick up from, to make sure we could get the vehicles in and out without a problem.

It's funny when telemarketers ring up and want an email address to send stuff to. They cannot get their heads around the fact that we don't have one.

All print media will die a slow death, some will just take longer than others.

A friend works for the Age and Fairfax is about to cull a whole lot of people, sub editors and most middle people.

I used to only buy the age on a thursday and the sun on a friday for the carsguides.

Then I grew up and noticed the amount of rubbish that is spoken in them I stopped about 5 years ago. The only paper I read is the free ones in the cafe.

Wouldn't have touched a Yellow, White or Pink Pages in at least 10 years. They get dropped off at the door of my apartment complex and I just leave it there to be picked up. I think it's a good move to make them special order.

When I'm in need of a phone number - I have home internet, phone internet and wireless internet at my disposal.

Might explain the media not double checking some of their sources and putting up information to justify their story.

Over 80% of people now shop online and or research through the interent.

Yellow pages only have itself to blame if they can it.
Absolute highway robbery advertising in it.
12 grand for a half page ad on the Gold coast and you can more than double that in the big cities.
I've just started a decent internet campaign and i'll be cutting back yellow pages if it turns out how i think it will.

eBay was always going to be the end of the Trading Post

Then again with eBays attitude at times i'd like to see them cop a hit as well

I havent used the Trading Post in years, but I still love to grab the free "Thursday trader" from the shopping centre.
Ebay has become too much of a location for online stroes rather than the 2nd hand market it used to be. I know you can filter with 'used' but it's still not the same.
The Thursday Trader and Trading Post are used by those that dont like ebay and as such you can find some real oddball and rare stuff in the paper compared to ebay. You can even get great bargains because there are less people looking at what you want.

I used the tradingpost website the other day, most uselsss thing ever and just about every item I looked foor said "call for a price"

yellow pages was always a ripoff to advertise in.

it was thousands of $$$$ for even a small ad...

and there would be limitless competition.

good riddance i say....

As for white pages...also goodbye, its a paradise for phone salesmen....

Now they will be stuffed...we all get silent numbers.
