Right hand, Left hand?

Why do we have right hand drive cars and many others left hand?
Weren't the first model T's built in RHD so when did the Yanks decide to change to LHD?
It seems as though half the world is one way and the other if you know what I mean. Are there more left handers in these LHD countries? :
No one has ever been able to definitively answer my question.

This website provides many answers, but left side travel is said to originate hundreds of years ago, so when a foe approached, and most being right handed, they could draw their sword and attack. A large part of Europe was switched to right side travel by Napoleon and the yanks used the right side when they were pulling large wagons, they road on the left rear horse, with the right hand wielding the whip. Sitting on the left and dealing with oncoming traffic, it was best to have them pass on the left so you could watch and ensure the wheels of the 2 wagons didn't collide. The rest was down to influence - the British empire for example.
