I'll ask this here as not many looking at ford fours. Is there any reason a 1993 2 liter Ford Telstar rotor button will not come off? I have 2 of these distributors and neither rotor button will come off short of breaking them which I don't want to do.

I would say it is just tight mate. I haven't had any experience with the motor you refer to but I have come across a few very tight rotor buttons in my time. A little jiggling had them loose in no time.

it would be surprising if they had it secured on in some way, i`ve never known a rotor to be secured on other than friction that i can remember, i`m thinking like Irish2 a bit muscle would do the job.

Hi. If it has a mitsubishi brand distributor there may well be a screw in from one side of the rotor under the raised rib in the flash shield. Cheers MD

Thanks for the replies. The button feels like it has been glued on with Araldite. No screws or anything else I can see. Also, there is nt a single indication of the manufacturers name any where on the distributor body. Ah well, I will persist.

Been out most of the day but most recent attempt was a fail. There definitely is nothing holding it on except maybe rust (can't see any sign of that). It is going to a mechanic on wednesday this week and I am going to watch him closely for any clues as tro why it would not come off. new rotor and cap going on and new timing belt and idler and tensioner bearings as well.

All the work finished and it runs well. As for the rotor, it was in the box of old parts in 2 pieces. rotating electrode torn completely out of the body of the rotor button. Them mechanics really know how to get things done. And the water pump flange bolts are wearing their own track in the timing cover, complete with accompanying light clatter. Mechanic says it will go away in a day or two. The're not even a Ford service department though they do Ford, and other new car warranty work. Only reason I go there is the hourly rate of $50. I hope youse guys don't mind a bit of mild sarcasm.

obviously the rotor was`nt coming off without a fight lol, some jobs don`t go easy no matter what you try,
i had to get a harmonic balancer off a gm diesel out of a kenworth years ago, i had service books showing a tech guy with a couple of delicate little pry bar bars simply popping the bastard gently off after undoing the bolt, anyway ................a day and half later......., no matter what i did, pullers, lubrication, it was`nt coming off, i ended up i had to wrap a sling around the balancer and hang the nearly one ton dead weight of 8v92 one inch above some blocks of wood on the ground and then belt it with a sledgey a couple of times , sometimes they just need the persuader . |

I just got another spare distributor and decided to remove its rotor button while I cleaned it's interior. Same deal again. no messing about this time. 300mm multi grips and still did not want to come off but I persuaded it and it came off. totally stuffed! Glad I have a new one. Mik, I weigh, in the old money, 320 pounds, or decimal 136 kilos. When I lean on something, it stays leaned on. lol
