Apparently we are no longer "young" and free but "one" and free as of today.

yer just i heard on my abc news brief
now dont jump on me , because i dont see a problem with the change but i fully disagree that it was needed or warranted and not a chance i would have asked for nor should they have the right to do so it already has "we are australian" implementing we are one surely they have better things to do/need to be done and i wonder how much for this useless change did it cost us $$ Quote:

I just updated it to the one with Russell Hitchcock ( Air Supply ) Judith Durham and featuring Mandawuy Yunupingu.
If I was in the middle of a footy field about to face the All Blacks, this is what I'd want to hear.............

The ABC has become really rotten with clueless warriors the last few years.
I personally think the anthem should officially be “More Beer” as sung to the tune of Auld Lang Syne. |

or alternatively what I posted on the "Curtain comes down on Holden" thread might be more appropriate.

IMO, young and free was incorrect, failing to recognise the Australian aboriginal people.
About time the constitution was changed to recognise the oldest race on earth too. Last edited by Mr_G6ET; 01-01-2021 at 12:29 PM. |

I guess when it was first written 1890's ???? it was a song about a young Australian settlement (the settlement not the age of the people).

The term 'Australian' is what the whites called it so that isn't unifying/recognising 'everybody'.
'The name Australia derives from Latin australis meaning southern, and dates back to 2nd century legends of an "unknown southern land" (that is terra australis incognita). The explorer Matthew Flinders named the land Terra Australis, which was later abbreviated to the current form' Interesting map |

so change the name of our country if its demeaning to whomever the point in my post was why change young to one (esp if as you state the bigger pic is the name "australia") when it already states in the same song we are from the same country (even tho its named australia) which in stating we are australian denotes "we are one" already in the song so should we change the names of everything as they state we were also one large continent prier to the tectonic plates shifting https://education.seattlepi.com/larg...-one-3646.html history happened get over it coz we cant change it nor should we change the song next theyll erase the word free due to the convict factor

Words in a song, number plates, what people identify as, colours, lollies, name calling whatever, the world has gone mad, people need to get over being offended at every turn, it is what it is and has been for a long time before I was born, majority of people dont give a toss what the words say or mean, more important S#!t to life than worrying about the words of a song.

I didn't realise one person could just change the national anthem on a whim.
Don't we get a say? |

Australia is a young nation. No amount of spin doctoring by Winston Smith will change that. What occurred before 1788 is another chapter in the history of this continent, but not this nation.
