thinking about giving it a try.
I fooled one of the local plods years ago when I got the FG11 fog lights converted to daytime driving lights.
told him it came from factory as a limited edition

As long as it was wired correctly (ie the drls come on with the ignition and dim when the headlights are on) then why would it be a concern?

I had some led spotlights on the roll bar on the bf rtv that also had ring drls in them. Got stopped at a random breath test once, and the junior cop didn't blink an eyelid, but the senior cop came over and asked me a few questions. He told me that he thought they weren't compliant because they weren't mounted at the front of the vehicle. I didn't have the heart to tell him that he was wrong and it was their height that was an issue! He asked me to follow it up with vicroads, which I dutifully said I would.

In this day and age with the number of new model cars with weird array of tail stop & DRL's light designs, I reckon you get away with it with no problems from Mr Plods.
You most likely get a warning if you were unlucky to be pulled up.
