Our power went off last night at 10.30 pm and it still isn't back on
The wind picked up a pergola ( that looked like it was a bit dodgy, not mine I might add ) and it took out some power lines SP ausnet have revised the repair time twice and now its supposed to be 11.00 pm tonight but there is no way that is going to happen as no one has showed up yet All the food in the fridge has gone off and I'm in the dark with a blanket over me for warmth and my phone is my only contact with the outside world I'm in Narrewarren North and wondering if any one else in Melbourne is having a similar Saturday night |

Hey if your power has been of for a number of hours you may be entitle to compensation by way of credit on your bill. Once power back on call your power retailer and ask.

the fridge should keep thingscold/frozen for a day or 2 with no power as long as the seals are in good condition and you don't stand in front of it with the doof open deciding what you want to eat/drink.
and keep in mind that standing there watching the people trying to fix it/continually asking 'how much longer' is a good way to make things take longer than they need to. yep i work on power lines and it annoys the heck out of me when people that have no idea what you are doing complain that it is taking too long

well the power came back on today at 9.00 am, 35 hours after it switched off Friday night
we have contacted SP Ausnet who have told us to take pictures of the food that has gone off ,which are mostly frozen meats and ice cream. we also need to produce a receipt for those good My wife did the shopping Friday afternoon so she still had the receipt. It took me 30 minutes just to reprogram the central heating and we didn't have any hot water as the continuous hot water systems use electricity to power up the unit (which is gas) Glad to be back in the 21st century. a house with no power is like living in a cave |

35 hour outage?
Id like to see what the damage was for it to be that long. Sounds like another example of the awesomeness that is Electricity Privatisation.................. |

eeeek, glad its running again.
Cold showers, no luxuries and rotten food. Not the best thing at all. Hope ya get back the money for the foods etc. Hope its not a silly idea, but maybe invest in a inverter for the car or a generator. I know one shouldnt have to, but its only an idea.

My in-laws had one of these installed at their place recently due to the power going off intermittently. Starts up automatically once power is off for a minute.
If I could justify it I'd get one too. Don't know what it cost to buy and instal though http://www.wellcross.com.au/viewItem.asp?idProduct=1003

Power outages where I live are rare and I wouldn't spend money on a generator
I was just surprised at the lack of information coming from sp ausnet To be told via a recorded message that they didn't know how long the power was going to be out is just crap |
