Completely Hypothetically:
If at the End of Season, they held a "world series" type game between the two big leagues; the AFL & NRL Premiers. Who would win, and why? Interested to read the different views on such a contest... |

Based on recent AFL decisions, AFL players will soon be wrapped up in cotton wool with dedicated flagmen used to keep players 10m apart. If it is full body contact I think the NRL blockheads will prevail.

Each at their respective sport I would imagine.

Weird scenario, but from the kick off it might be difficult for the NRL boys to ever get their hands on the ball.
I watch NRL [ NQ Cowboys ]. Been a few league players try the change over and haven't been able to do it. First tackle from a league forward like Thaiday or Papalli and the AFL players would know they're in for a long 80 minutes. The grounds are a totally different size aren't they? Quarters instead of halves, so no possible comparison in my opinion. |

AFL playing NRL. They mite have a chance if the entire team consisted of Barry Hall clones, each carrying cattle prod`s. Seriously though, it would be like watching Running of the Bulls and starting a marathon for the Obese at the other end.
NRL playing AFL. Be like watching a 20 year old Mike Tyson vs Harold Bishop. |

NRL playing AFL they would be good at running the ball fending of attempted tackles, but goal shots would be poor.
AFL by a good margin. AFL playing in NRL sorry but the AFL player would be decimated, probably all in the blood bin. NRL win by a serous flogging..

AFL would kill NRL in both forms.
In AFL they would run rings around them and in NRL they would absorb a few tackles, kick it straight up and let Buddy, Shultz, Tippett, Riewoldt, etc. etc. mark it and score. |

In the NRL these days the players are hit in tackles by 3 and 4 men at once.
Their bodies are accustom to this type of punishment. It doesn’t matter how good an athlete you are, after a few hits like this the AFL player’s bodies would falter. If they played NRL first the AFL players would not be able to walk let alone run, jump and kick the ball. If the AFL was played first the league players would not be able to match the AFL player in kicking, marking and more importantly the constant running style of game. The NRL players would run out of puff. Really it would be just as interesting as watching Mike Tyson taking on the World Chess Champion in ear chewing contest. |

Interesting, Very Interesting.
A few have gone so far as to analyse the different strengths and weeknesses. Almost everybody raised the point that it would depend entirely on the rules. So why can't our politicians figure that out? To answer my OP question, the answer is simple: AFL would flog NRL. They would have more players on the field, they would pass forward, and they wouldn't abide by offside. Then, apart from the quartertime breaks, they would keep on playing after the League players had finished. Yes, as everybody observed, it was a stupid question. How could two groups using completely different rules possibly compete in a "free" competition? So again I ask; why can't our pollies understand this? That's why the concept of "free trade" (as currently applied) is a sad joke when it comes to countries such as China. It's NOT a "level playingfield" because they play by fundamentally different rules. |

Dazz, are you and Hulk having some kind of "lets see who can make the most inane posts" competition ?
