Purolator PureOne are the best filter available. I have some here but cant use them on the BA due to possible warranty issues.

Their catalog says they will meet ANY issue if a manufacturing fault. Your dealership service dept is just spinning protocall. I have used them on every new Ford I purchased.

Soup Strainer works just as well as those Purolator Filters :
Just kiding. I use them on my AU. The ford service department is happy for me to provide my own filter. I have had no problem with them. But the guys who would know are the ones who change their own oil. Casper swears by the Purolator. |

Oil degrades from the moment its in your engine and the engine is started. Usually by 5000kms the oil is reaching its limit and is starting to break down. The longer you can keep oil from breaking down then more protection your engine gets. Think of spending a few extra dollars on the purolater filters as a form of safetynet insurance for your engine.

Cleaner is not always better, if you have engine mods that require good oil supply and you go too far on the screening you may be restricting flow. All filters have a micron rating for screening particles. I use standard micron rated filters and change the oil and filter every 5000km and with 123000 on the clock its still as clean as a new cars oil. (and I only use synthetic)
There are lots of different theories and opinions will always vary. |

I was once told that if the oil comes out clean, the detergents in the oil aren't doing a good enough job cleaning the residues created by the combustion process.
I guess though, if the filter is that good, a lot of these residues get locked up in the filter as the oil travels through. GK |

I'm surprised no-one has mentioned the Baldwin filter. The serial no. is B2-HPG for 6 cyl Falcons and I have used these for the last 15 years on four Falcons from XE to AU2. In all cases, I change oil and filter at 10,000km and the oil comes out clean but the filter is black. One of the Falcons (the EA) did over 450,000km by the time it was sold and it sometimes went 15,000 between changes as my daughter had it. We have even used the old oil in a Mini that we had some years back. All major filter companies stock Baldwin but not many shops like Supercheap or Auto One.

I suppose no-one mentions Baldwin is because 95% of their business in this country is commercial/industrial thats their focus. Good product yes but not after the Traditional Retail market.
What do you mean "all major filter companies stock baldwin".....

Sorry
By 'All major Filter Companies stock Baldwin', I meant people like, and I can only quote Perth, Filter Supplies in Radium Street, Welshpool who, as you rightly say, supply transport companies. The public can go there and they also stock oils at reasonable prices. Russell |
