I think the bbm is a restriction to the mighty I6. So for sure there would be gains to be had..

Yeah mine was done. Slight improvement but not enough to justify the dollars spent. But it may be like the Mock's say - that you need to be at a certain rwkw level for the improvement to be more noticeable. We'll see with the next round of mods whether having a modified BBM will help. JMM have had success with this mod so there's gotta be something in it, but at what power level do you need to be at to notice it - who knows.

The bbm is IMO the best maifold as is.There are gains in porting any intake manifold but I do not believe that manifold really needs it. The bbm is the best piece of equipment on our cars. I have seen alot of photos of the bbm and have to say that when they switch from long to short runner I am of the understanding that both long and short supply air to the port. If anyone knows different please let us know

haha stav your a funny guy . You took time to port your own head But you never looked at the manifold.

When you did your head did you even look at the difference from your inlet manifold to your inlet ports ?

You do know that the butterfly's on a stock bbm will never open all the way so that means that the top half of the butterfly's still block the air flow.

There is a easy way and a harder way of fixing that problem.
easy way then the runners don't switch for about a extra 500 - 700 rpm . The harder way will keep the switching the same

maybe this is why you don't go as quick as you can with the mods you have ???

Should get up the revs a bit quicker, a bit more power up the top and less down low grunt.

im gonna separate it later, i think taking out the biutterflys will send the ECU into a few problems heard off a few eseries guys on the other forum. Be ok if you have a tune but you dont wanna sacrifice low down power with these cars.

if you take the butterfly's out then you will loose low down power .

Try it your self by just cable tieing the pod open on the front of the bbm .

If you are forced then yes take them out and it will help heaps.
If you are N/A then yes you can still take them out , you will just loose that bit of power until you get to about 2,500rpm or so .
or you can go the hole hog like a few of us have done and cut out the chambers of the bbm as well so it is just 1 big manifold .
and if you do that make sure you have enough power to warrant it or you will be beaten through a set of traffic lights by a kid on a bmx it is that slow if you do it to a stocko motor

Krissy.
its one of those things imo that you'd only notice if you do all the work, then do the manifold...

your car will just make more power easier, so its something you wont notice, even next mod and next mod after that

does that make sense? lol

I did a spare head in the garage.I never full removed the bbm. I didnt know the butterflies dont open fully. I am looking at dumping the manifold for something a bit different.Well alot different lol..

Intake ports matched by gasket to manifold then gasket to head.

EFI Hardware and about $4,000. They are supposed to give a very big increase and I bet they would make 1 hell of a noise. Already looked at them Stav lol.

Joe ..the oil comes from pcv valve on the rocker cover into the intake manifold. It is pretty normal. Racers use an oil catch can connected in between .
Stiddy...are you my evil twin?hehe

IF you wanted to get the most out of your engine N/A, the EFI throttle body set-up shown above would definately be a huge step in the right direction.
Stav, you never know buddy I could be ;)

The BBM is a very very good manifold for road cars up to around 170-180rwkw. Once above that kind of figure, it is a restriction in it's standard form at higher revs, and their are better choices.
A 6 T/B unit like Stav showed is as good as it gets, however it will be sacrificing low end power, but realistically, someone with over 180rwkw won't be too interested in low end power anyway.

It would be a waste of time IMO, if used on an engine with less than at least 160rwkw.

Rick.

Dont want to take from the thread so Ill be brief.Lets just say its going to be a present whent the wagon's retired from street to full drag car. That setup will work wonders for the car ..The airflow will be good for quite alot of rwkws to say the least. You have to agree that passing rego with it will be a little hard.

If it was done properly, with a factory looking air box and so on, it would likely pass rego just fine.
Their are plenty of standard factory cars around with individual TB manifolds, and all motorbikes have them (except hogs).
