hey guys, i just got ms office 2007, from my parents since they went overseas and pick up a copy of it, its so different that 2003, its going to take a while to get used 2 aswell.

Nice, been thinking about getting this for Vista. Employer particiaptes in the program where i can use their licence agreement for a personal copy.

i dont think you can. i bought the one that was for students. it is the compete package, but only $75. gotta have a uni based email address.
some new programs released with it, not to sure on their uses

Im sure it wouldn't be that hard to get used to. But change for changes sake annoys me.

Pain in the a55 to use and get used to but meh....one thing i learnt recently about it. Originally came out with a save as PDF function, was later removed after adobe had a spit. can be reinstalled via a patch downloadable from micr0$of7

No. But there is a 3rd party add-in that will give menus similar to the old style menus for some applications (Word and Excel and some others). You then just hide the Ribbon if you don't like it.

I tested Office 2007 from long before pre Beta and, after a while, you really get used to it. The new UI exposes much more. You don't need to dig as much to find what an application offers. Some users are finding features they didn't know existed.

Just to note: Outlook 2007 is a hybrid application. It uses the new UI (with Word set by default as the editor - can't be changed) for messages etc but the old UI for the main application. That will change in teh future. OneNote 2007 uses the old UI.

It wasnt a change for changes sake. The decision was based on the fact that the old UI had become bloated as new features were added, usability considerations, efficiency considerations and to expose more features.

This is all *really* old news. The leader of the UI team, Jensen Harris, has a Blog that details all the UI changes along with reasons and tips etc - http://blogs.msdn.com/jensenh/

It's a huge blog. Simple UI info would be way back towards the start.

Meh.

I use OpenOffice for word processing/spreadsheets. I'll be buggered if I am paying a crap load of money for something that I can get for free. Can create PDF's in OO as well!

Vista was such a let down anyhow, not even worth it for free IMO (and yes, I mean that - we get it free through work and I still haven't touched it). So many better alternatives.

I guess Office 2007 will be ok, but everyone who I talk to ends up with Open Office anyhow - costs nothing and does more than enough for the average 'Office' user.

What is always funny, is seeing things eventually come out in Office (or Windows / IE for the matter) that have been around (for free) in other programs for ages.

I like Outlook 2007 but can't really see much else in the 07 Office update to get excited about. Outlook is much nicer though, particularly the calendar functions etc.

well firstly MS word is so much more user friendlyer... more fonts, WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get....no more try this font..have a look..no good....try another

pictures dont jump around, if they are put in the corner and you put another 4 beside it they dont get lost somewhere....they do as they are told

the toolbars at the top are meant to be modified to suit you, and change when something is being done.....text goes to the standard toolbar (forgot name), pictures and all your options are there, tables, etc

sooo much more user friendly.....just needs getting use to, you dont have to fight with it

havent tried the other programs

that's no longer the case with Word 2007. There aren't even toolbars - replaced by Ribbons.

I have seen downloads to convert the ribbons back to office 2003 style menus, personally I have been using office 2007 since the beta came out, and now have the official full version, I reckon its great and simple to get the hang of.
