These arn't just cars, people put a lot of time an effort and money in maintaining their car and really protecting what they paid good money for. Then you get someone entrusted to looking after your pride and joy, and they give it a canning for their own enjoyment. How would they react of it was their car.

That sounds like a good story - if it were true, the mechanic's insurance should cover it, so why is it being sold?

I'm a mechanic I would not do that to a customer. Cause I would be fairly pis5ed if I found them flogging my car.
I rekon a punch in the mouth would be on the cards too

Would the mecahnics employment have been terminated or would he have been made to replace the car?Prolly at ford cost price LOL. Ford dealer could not do anything but give new car right? So does mech have a weekly deduction or given the boot?

Car was at Auction. Owner has his new car through insurance. The new owner is a Panel Beater, he bought it and now has decided to set rid of it.

Sounds like a loose belt...

ANYWAY, arrived back at work to take a call informing me that their technician crashed my car, front end write off, undrivable.
He then asked me if had insurance which I thought was a little strange.

Has anyone else any experience similar?

Wow - kind of lucky/unlucky for the owner. If a panel beater won't fix it, it must be stuffed!

That link only works if you're a member.

Maybe the reason was....Parts for the XR5 was much more expensive and harder to get than the normal focus! some parts would have to be sent from overseas?

Definatley. The idea of fixing it up is a good one, but a magority of parts sourced from OS, would make the rebuild more expensive. Even wrecking it, he could recover some of his money, but with a damaged mechanicals, most of the money is in those parts alone.

Generally if the airbags go off in a LS, they stat-write off the car.

I think the airbag will only deploy if the car was hit hard enough...pretty sure most cars have a g-force sensors, like over 3G's, only excessive amount will engage the airbags!
