Smile Who's good to ask about what!!-Want to introduce yourself?

Hi All

As a newbie I have found these forums interesting to say the least.
I thought it might be a good idea to have a thread where everyone can say what they feel they are confident with. Maybe we can all refer back to it later....

I'll start by saying that I'm not too bad with electrical stuff, stereos etc. Also I have gone a round or two with car dealers over the years and can offer suggestions on how to handle things when the salesman puts the pressure on.

So, it's over to all you Guys and Gals. What are you good at? Mods, electrics, engine mechanics, paint repairs? The list goes on....

Oh, my name is Blake, by the way.

Over to you!!!!

Nice to meet you Blake.

I'm George (GK) and am good at carefully perusing all the great stuff on this awesome forum! I have 2 AU's a Series 1 Futura Wagon and a Series 2 SR Sedan. Both are great. The AU is a great car.

I'm not an authority on anything AU, but love to ask questions from those that are. There are plenty here! LOL! I service my own cars, doing what I can, learning lots along the way. This forum has helped me out so many times, it's rare if you can't get a good solution here. Some of the discussion and debate is downright funny too!

Welcome aboard!

Welcome Blake. I've had my AU pretty much since i got my L's. My dad bought it new in 2000 so its been around for a bit. I'm doing an apprenticeship at Metro Ford in fortitude valley at the moment to become a mechanic there so i'm starting to learn a little bit about common problems, basic knowledge about the cars and servicing etc. I'm also pretty up on all the options, colours, specs, wheels, interior trims etc that were available on the AU series (basically all the useless facts lol) .. so any questions you've got i could try and answer for you. :1syellow1

Glenn
Thanks for that, exactly the person we need to know about. Byrne services mine otherwise I'd pop it into Metro and ask for you-they have a good reputation. You are in an excellent position having taken over a car that you've known from new.
Good luck in your career too mate
Regards
Blake

Hi blake , i've done all my own services for 15 years ( since i got my licence ), and others before that ( dads car etc etc ) from around 14 - Allthough im not a mechanic, i am a quilified fitter and tuner ( specialise in hydraulics and phuenmatics ) and grew up all my life around friends who became mechanic and electronic gurus etc etc , we have all shared our knowledge around and learned a thing or 2 from each other while working on cars and other projects together over the years. I consider myself pretty mechanically minded (not as in thinking im a mechanic !) and have a pretty good idea / or at least understanding how most things work , im happy to lend my suggestion on whatever topics - allthough weather someone else wants to listen to my advice is up to them , and thats kewl ;) - alot of times i'de rather just be left to guide someone in the right direction if i can - but if its a topic i can help someone out with for sure then i'll do so too if they want the advice . Im not claiming to be a know all , i still love to learn new things all the time too ;) , even since joining this site it has opened my eyes up to alot of new thing around these days and slight changes made to the engines over the last few years , i sorta went out of the 'fixing cars / making stuff etc etc ' period for the last 4 years roughlly due to overseas business . So im sorta cleaning myself up again on the knowledge data base , so to say
...lol

again - , welcome to the forums ;) .. cheers

Thanks mate , allthough i don't consider myself a mechanic ! .

Specially when in here dealing with cars ( which is a mechanics specialty ) , im sure there are many mechanics here that can teach us all a good thing or two . Even some people not qualified in stuff still have good ideas , i won't diss nothing till proven wrong (even then really i wont argue , i rather leave it as is and 'agree to disagree' .lol - otherwise agruements start and threads/forums get closed :(, <-- ready to listen to any advice ...

Ok, so I've had a few sets of rims (13 sets on 4 cars in 4 years, I think was the last tally).

I also do my own suspension, brakes, exhaust, steering wheels, and most other mechanical, electrical and stereo/video related stuff that doesn't involve pulling down or rebuilding a motor. I have fitted Roler Rockers to my AU XR8, but it's not something I would do again in a hurry!

I am really good at pulling stuff apart - it's the getting it back together that sometimes causes a problem. I'm also good at getting Bucky to sell me things at my price, not his! :

Oh, I also paint bits and pieces from time to time, but I wouldn't say I'm good at it - I just do it.
