Default Red for the Factory entered XW-XA GT's?

This has often intrigued me, was there a reason for the cars being red...Sponsorship, corporate decision?

Globally, it seems that ford had no real factory identity until the 80's when the blue diagonal stripes over white was used. (Aside from the white/blue stripe Shelby mustangs...but also back then, colours symbolized nation as well)

Allan Mann racing used red in the 60's...

Locally, it wasn't until the Ford Credit team that Blue really started to be a big part of the factory racing effort, as far as i can tell.

Red cars go faster?

Yeah, not sure on the reasoning. Did red stand out more on black and white tv?

Of course they also switched to the white with blue xa hardtops later on. Before they pulled out in 73?

The colour of "Brambles Red" (Orangy Red) for the very first XW Falcon GT-HO was chosen by Al Turner, he chose it for the Ford presentation day in Melbourne.

All 5 of the first "Works" cars were that colour and 10 were produced in total.

Another 61 were later produced in Candy Apple (Red).

Only reason I know this is because I happen to have been reading my only recently acquired copy of AMC, Ford Falcon GT-HO Special Edition

Yeah, I was going to say it sounded like an Al Turner idea.

You'll probably find that the all white XA look was Howard Marsden signature.
