Why would iPhone owners need to beware? Does the google phone beat up iPhone owners?

It's been programmed to seek out and eat iPhones on sight.

I'll be hiding mine.

It's an HTC branded for Google. (which isn't a bad thing)

I love the write up at http://mashable.com/2010/01/05/its-o...hone-revealed/ where it says "It comes with features such as a light sensor, GPS, and accelerometer. These are all features pioneered by Apple’s iPhone."

Nookia's N95 had the GPS and accelerometer 4 years ago.

Why should I be aware of a phone I have no desire to own? I quite like my iPhone.

Another gadget that every nine year old will want to own...not because they need it, but because the 15 year old down the street got one because the 19 year old next door had one...

Most iPhones were sold on hype, not substance.
So those that bought on that basis need to be careful as they will now have an uncontrollable to buy the next bestest coolest thing.

TRUE who would want a touch phone in the real world, anyone in even a slightly demanding enviroment ( most hard workers ) will find the touch screen becomes unreliable as it is exposed to the rigours of day to day life

Those workers whose job involves their hands being covered in grease, oil, dirt, etc, I'd totally agree, but the iphone has some great tools for those (most harder workers ) that reside in more office based situations and is a great way to stay in touch with the office (emails, messages, etc).

In all seriousiness the only problem I've noted with any of our companies iPhones, in comparison to the Nokia's that are used, is that the signal strength can be a little weak in some situations.

The Google phone looks like a good product, hopefully it pushes Apple to make the iPhone even better.

Even though the iPhone is perfect for white collar types, I've seen tradies with them as well. All you need is the rubber backing case, and a stick on screen protector. You can get the phone as dirty and greasy as you like, there's pretty much nowhere for the crud to get in.

true these functione are useful to many ( including me) but i use a nokia N85 and find the absence of a touchscreen enhances longevity without sacrificing functionality

I had a HTC phone once branded as a Tel$tra phone, I hope they have upped their production standards since then, as it was a cheap flimsy plastic feeling thing.

Back in the day I remember the kids coming in and wanting to get an iPhone, jumping up and down at the cabinet.

Parents would be all casual "oh well we'll see how much it is darling".... until I told them the price ($1099 at the time). They always almost half bolted out the door.

I think its great that there is a phone out utilizing the features that apple pioneered, it creates competition in the market, makes the technology more widespread and thus, cheaper. Win win if you ask me, can't wait to see what else is coming

Open source software in a controlled market. Something that should have been done years ago but still eludes the simpletons at other hardware/software organisations.

It will fail like all the other smartphones unless it can break into Apple's monoploy over the "App Store" and "iTunes" setup.

The reason for the Iphone's success is largely based on Apple's business plan with developers and the software available for the phone; not just it's functionality.

Some of the crew here have the Nokia E75 and they do the job very well. And can take a bit more of a beating when they are out and about.

Gotta agree. The hatred people have for the iPhone is disturbing. FFS it's a phone. Just because the other 99% of the world doesn't share your view, build a bridge and move on. Seriously, my iPhone does everything I need. It makes and receives calls, a lot of cool free apps which some are useful while others are rubbish. I get my emails, i can surf the web. It is all there. I love the sporting apps. push of a button and all the sports results I need are loaded onto my phone instantly. Free app, i just pay for the download which is part of my plan anyway. At home I use my wireless network.

I like my iPhone. I just don't get all this iPhone v every other phone on the planet rivarly. If you had an iPhone and you don't like it, then get a new phone, but do us all a favour and ring someone who cares. Lifeline is open 24 hours aday. Ring them on your new Nokia.

Personally I don't hate the iPhone.
My issue is this:
It came on the market in Australia with a feature level met/surpassed by most 4 year phones.
MMS, Video calling, 3g, and bluetooth were all better on almost any other phone.
All it had was the applications - and these were also already available on symbian and windows based phones.
What it did was market.

I am talking about the original Au iPhone here, please don't flame me about how good the latest one is.

The marketing of the iPhone saw it enter the market and become a leader with inferior features.

Same thing I don't like some car companies for.

I don't know about that.

The original I phone was marketed as a combination of phone, video ipod and low end internet device. I think it achieved this. I bought a series 1 just for these features. I never needed MMS; the device can email photos, likewise bluetooth connectivity to other mobile devices, not needed if you can email stuff.

What is missing is the ability to edit files but that is lower on my list of requirements.

The UI was the other feature that impressed and has been copied a lot since.

People feel the need to criticise Apple a being over priced but they do innovate a lot and present a nice form factor.
