I generally don't like hitting anything. Its not good for the car, or the object you hit. If the snake happens to run under my tyre when I'm going 90km/h, well then... that's the snake's fault.

I try to avoid all animals, i'm no animal lover, but to purposely hit something like a snake or lizard just doesnt seem right to me.

I just wouldnt want one flipping up under the car. Last time I hit anything was a bat, and it took the paint off my bumper back to the primer.

If its a rabbit I line the sucker up. Same thing with a fox.
But snakes and lizards i avoid if possible. If there is no way i can avoid them then the poor buggers get hit. And eagles. Really big eagles everyone should avoid. People in/driven through the top half of SA will know what im talking about. The big *** birds that dont move. And cows! i avoid cows! And deer! dead set we get deer down the road! |

I went for other.... if i'm doing 110 and there's a snake in the way - well, sorry mate but your number is up. I wont swerve to miss one, i wont swerve to hit one.
If you guys feel the need to kill, why not go for introduced species?? Give the natives a break.

I generally try to avoid animals, though not always successfully. I've scored one flaffy baby bird and also hit a medium sized dog in the rain one night. Would only have been doing 50 km/h or so and didn't see it in time to react. It ran off, and got out to look at the car assuming a bent numberplate or something.
Turned out to have a buckled fender, bent bumper and the headlight was aimed about 20 degrees downwards. Never underestimate the damage an animal could do to your car! |

Well, I ran over a small-ish Green Tree Snake the other week that I mistook for a branch. Funny thing is though that it disappeared right after I ran it over...
General rule is that anything cat-size and up I try to avoid, anything else is fodder...

I thought all snakes were a protected species?
I really can't see the argument either about hitting snakes around where you live - the effect would be negligible, and considering that snakes will consume some of our foreign pests - rabbits, rats, mice - it all seems a bit narrow sighted to kill them just because their snakes. |

...and bonus points if they're moving and you have to swerve to hit them...
: : : : : Had an echidna cross the road in front of me once. Had to stop from 100km/h (enough room to do so with drama) and wait while it casually waddled past. It was obviously unconcerned about the traffic... |

We have adventure points. 1 million gets you a large strongbow bought by the others. Certain things get certain points. We also have a rabbit/animal tally. Living where we do we get a lot of rabbits. And foxes. And birds. Theres also been 1 or 2 roos. Luckily in a car that was being decommisioned and turned into a basher. Im a bit wary of up the road. Bloody cows every where. Most blokes have cattle grids on there roads but its them getting over the fences that worries me. Cow vs road train is the best animal hit ever. theres nothing left of the cow. |

Hit a snake (or any animal) on purpose? Thats just slack and dumb, makes me sick.
I do a lot miles (umm.. km) around NSW, and I see snakes goannas turtles echidnas all sorts of animals quite a bit, i would never purposly hit one. (I have done it by accident when i didnt see it til too late or i couldnt swerve safely, and i feel bad after). Cars cause enough environmental damage, when used as designed (you know 140plus on a lovely sweeping mountian road..grin..) but to use it to purposely "line up" some critter just gettin on with what ever it is they do? Wake up to yourselves, really.... Im no car hating greenie, far from it, I love big fast cars (and some small fast cars) i love all good cars, and i love driving, fast. But that dont give me the right to go round killing things just coz it "makes me feel like a man" or "they give me the creeps" or someИИИИe. I hope next time your busy "lining up" thsi snake, you dont notice the HUGE Red 'roo (or semi) til its thru your windscreen, serves you right (disclaimer: my kid had a pet snake, was cool!) |
