Ok.. So, thanks to all who have helped me understand the Serial vs VIN number difference..
Now, I am trying to understand and find what the codes mean Was told its OFF WHITE (Cream) ? Was told its 4.1.. with GAS.. added or factory, not sure ? Was told its 3 speed COLUMN AUTO... correct Was told its BROWN TRIM... correct So.. armed with a photo of the compliance plate and Google.. I found NOTHING Nothing matched up, was more centred on XD/XE.. Some info just was just missing altogether.. So hoping someone can clear it up for me here...please Please reads as follows: Prefix Body: JG42GJ Serial No: 21580 C Model: 45481 Engine: L Trans: R Trim: F1 Paint: HP Seats: 3 Build: May 86 GMV: 2230 Seems to be a lot of conflicting codes in dates and models, that I can't decipher Hopefully you can Thanks in advance Mark |

Thanks AUSSIEBLUE, I have seen this chart, but it didn't reflect the vehicle
I have.. it seems to have limited info as I can't find the PAINT CODE "HP" nor its TRIM CODE F1..Reason being, I might want to replace some trim parts and respray it to original colour.. I noticed "L" for an engine code, but that's depicted on an XE model, keeping in mind, I have an XF.. that's why it concussing for me, unless there's an OVER LAP in models ?? roKWiz, you seemed to have more progress than I will ever be able too Thank you all.. If anyone else has more info, would be appreciated Mark |

oh and codes mean little if some ones changed something in its 34 years of life
motor swap for a 4.1 or other interior swap out (seats) or even a repaint

Just a quick update..
Looking at the GAS plate, it seems to have a different engine installed Engine No. is different to that of the chassis number.. Not sure if that is standard ? So there is no confusion, I'll add the photos of all 3 plates.. Makes an interesting fact finding mission to those who are interested If I had the knowledge and strength I'd try to continue , but just out of hospital and concentration isn't my best friend atm Here's hoping for a good outcome so I know what I have.. Thanks Mark |

Here a copy of the Microfiche parts catalog pages but it won't resolve the paint code question. They are a bit hard to read due to the limits on upload sizes so if you PM a email address I will send you easier to read versions.

oh forgot to add that the 86 XF didnt come with factory gas
youd need to confirm the engine number on the engine , as the gas tank may have come from another vehicle , but if the motors been changed and then gas n tank fitted then according to that engine number the motor came from J = Australia L = Broadmeadows and i guess 44 = Falcon GLS Ute. (JH/JG build). but as it says JH/JG build from id guess a June 1990 vehicle the HP colour still has me stumped unless it was a custom factory order colour

Hi Guys. I don't really want to steal the thread, but I have several questions, mainly relating to that engine code list.
In the XT section the list shows codes T & Y for the 302 2V & 302 4V (GT) respectively, but most manuals show Y & W for these 2 engines. Where are the engine codes for XW & XY ? In XA/XB it lists T as the GT HO engine. AFAIK T was for the 'normal' GT & code H was used for the XA GT HO (even though only 1 car was built). Also in XA/XB it lists K as a 351 4V, but shouldn't that be a 351 2V ? For XC it lists the 4.1 lo-comp 6-cyl as code B, but the factory workshop manual has to as code J. The biggest confusion exists in XF (the subject of this thread). The list shows: XF B 3.3 ALLOY HEAD HC XF E 4.1 ALLOY HEAD HC XF L 3.3 ALLOY HEAD MC - NSW XF V 3.3 ALLOY HEAD HC ex NSW XF X 4.1 ALLOY HEAD HC - NSW XF W 4.1 ALLOY HEAD HC ex NSW XF Y 4.1 ALLOY HEAD HC - EFI XF T 4.1 ALLOY HEAD HC - EFI XF N 4.1 ALLOY HEAD HC 2V This seems to follow the factory parts catalogue, except that code N is not mentioned there. The XF factory workshop manual is totally different. It lists: 84/85 ADR27B (Leaded) 3.3 litre (Carby) - M 4.1 litre (Carby) - G 4.1 EFI - Y See post #3 (above) Unleaded petrol upgrade 86/88 ADR37 (Unleaded) 3.3 litre (Carby) - B 4.1 litre (Carby) - E 4.1 EFI - T Can anybody clear this up ? One thing though the code Ns that I've seen were all on 1991 utes & vans. Maybe Ford issued a different code just for those. In those late cars the 4.1 carby was those only engine available. The 3.3 was no more & EFI was never fitted to utes or vans. Dr Terry |

seeing the sites XF section only goes to 1988
and yours is a 93 but still falls in to the ute van area is still suggest maybe cross referencing from the others from same year from the EB/ED section http://www.fordforums.com.au/vbporta...p?articleid=13 there are a few G1's for 93 but all are basically Slate Velour

in terms of the HP colour code one can't help thinking that as it is a panel van it might be some corporate livery colour for some company or organisation that ordered a fleet of vans and therefore was able to have them in their corporate colour and the HP is the company's or organisation's initials (e.g Hilton Plumbing, Hewlett Packard, Hostralia Post) . Do you know who/what the original registered owner was?
