I heard that these shift kits around you can buy will dramatically increase performance and quarter mile times I'm just wondering if anybody has one of these and can confirm this?
I'm thinking about getting one, to help out my car for the time being till I can afford to switch over to multipoint for my EA. Thanks!

If its the electronic one thats sold on ebay.. then it can be *made* for a lot cheaper then they're selling it for.
And they're not that good :P

When my car was auto I had one of these on it and it definately increases performance. You get a bigger push in the back during gear changes.

i wouldn't say they dramatically increase performance and quarter mile times... they make the shifts firmer and a little quicker.. .if your car has some decent power it might chirp changing into 2nd (might). might increase qtr slightly but i doubt it would be much.

I suppose you get what you pay for but if DIY then extremely good value mod.
More fun than anything else. In the wet is great And yeah - enough power and she'll chirp into 2nd in the dry ;)

Hey how much power would you need to get it to chirp into 2nd? I suppose my EA CFI would be out of the question. : But yeah, even though the 3.9lit CFI motor is the biggest POS these shift kits would help it out right? Like the gearing and acceleration would be better right?? :togo:

I could chirp into second with 108 rwkw. Slight chirp into 3rd depending on surface.
No it won't do anything for the gearing, all it does is make the transmission change gears quicker. And mine actually slowed me down over the quarter mile. All of half a second. A few people call bullshit, but the fact is, with the kit in, chirping into 2nd it was running 17.1-17.3, when we removed the kit and it stopped chirping I ran a 16.75 right away, dropping it down to 16.6 after a few runs. Might sound suss, but a few other club members saw it and I have the timeslips to prove it. |

Okay so the 1/4 mile time would have gotten worse but did the 0-100km/h sprint improve?
My Falcon, with all the mods still takes 13 or so secs to get from standstill to 100km/h and thats really slack. Not only because of the crappy CFI but also possibly due to the slow gear changes.

i have 140rwkw and although my changes are hard as dried up shit, i dont get any wheelspin in the dry (235s, LSD).
i call BS on these "shift kits", they dont do nothing but make your tranny feel like crap. |

Ive got a different electronic shift kit in to those that the above people are mentioning. The one above wouldnt stop my trans from slipping when it changed gears. Now I can chirp every gear and get quite sideways from 1-2 if Im not in a straight line.
The old was a a bit firmer but I couldnt get it to chirp in the dry with my stock EB.

my auto was ****ed before i took it out could easily chirp 1-2 even when the car was CFI (and 2-3 even more so cos it flared lol)

I can vouch for what Rob has said...
I was there when he was running his car at heathcote, and we couldn't figure out why it was running slower. Eventually (after some nagging! :P) he took the shift kit off and it went straight to runnning better times. He was only chirping into second, he wasn't really "losing grip", so i would very much doubt that would be the problem... |

Hmm thats strange, why would the shift kit make his car slower over the 400m sprint?

A shift kit can make a "slight" difference but, just like any other performance mod, if its not right for the car it can work the other way are make no difference at all. If it shifts too hard it will actually cause either wheelspin (slow) or, on less powerful cars, it will cause the revs to drop too suddenly and have to build back up again (slower again). It is to be set up correctly to the car to allow the changes to be quicker without simply shocking the whole driveline.

All i have done to my auto is put in an adjustable VPS (varable pressure solinoid). this hasnt caused me to loose traction when changing gears there for having a greater 1/4 time but it has allowed a quicker shift which can be felt for sure when comparing my eb to my mum's ed. it cost me 90 for the part and about 30 min to istall.
