Default Pursuit of happiness no longer

Latest intercept from the secret squirrel crystal ball association of Ford product development.

No more FPV Pursuits or SPs in the new series and the Ford product (XR8 or whatever its new name is) will be the only V8 ute available.
Apparantly this is due to the costs of developing the new platform outweighing the projected income for those models.

I have been aware that ute sales are not THAT spectacular but if this rumour is true then it will be a shame that this marque will bite the dust.

Anyone heard anything?

Wasn't there a report not long ago that said ford still hold strong with ute sales? Ie, they have the most? Wouldn't have thought the SP utes where selling badly. Let's hope it stays on in FPV range with coyote

(I agree) There also a fella up the road from me that owns every pursuit or super pursuit from au to bf . But he wont buy the fg either.

If the new sp ute looked anything like the ba/bf models i would have bought a new one last year with 50 % tax break.

Does this coincide with the demise of the falcon Ute in readiness of the new T6 platform?

Just a suggestion?

Nope. Falcon ute isn't going anywhere.

FPV sales for 2009:

F6X:33
GS Ute: 58
F6E: 24
F6: 446
S/Pursuit:183
Pursuit:23
GS:156
GTE: 45
GTP:102
GT:543

Sad to think GS Ute might be going, I think there was an opportunity
there for about 300-400 sales without internal competition.

Improving economic climate could see GT up near 600, GS 400, F6 500

That's about 1800 across 4 vehicles...

i think with the new v8 coming it would be a great opportunity for FPV to develop an independent rear end for the FPV utes

There goes the only model with a rear end capable of handling the S/C...

Pursuit is/was my favorite FPV model, will be very sad to see it go, funny the Maloo R8 sells rather well, must have been the new Wheels and being treated right to the upmarket ICC, Ect.

IMO the Pursuit should have been what the S/P is minus the Seats with them as an option, not enough room in the market for 3 utes + competitors.

Looks like the FG XR8 Ute is my last Ford ute then? V8 utes are a very Australian thing.

No he means it will be XR8 Ute but nothing above.

Hope on the flip side this means potentially a 5.0L Base Model Ute option as surely XR8 on it's own wouldn't warrent the development of the V8 as far as Crash testing, suspention, Ect?

No more FPV ute.. NOT no more FORD ute..... "XR8" type ute to survive.

If its true its hardly surprising considering how poorly they sell.

Sorry, evidently I misread the first post. Still very disappointing though, it means the Maloo is now the only real 'performance' option for a ute unless you buy a base model and throw aftermarket gear at it. I was keen for an FPV ute for my next one in about 2 years, looks like the other half will be happy as she can renovate the house with the money instead :

Sad news if true. Another reign they are giving to Holden/HSV
Ill never have the coin to buy an FG FPV ute, and its scary to think of putting my self in debt for one because they cost so bloody much. But still - I'd LOVE an FG Pursuit Ute.

I too have not seen many on the road. Probably 4 since they were released.
Seen plenty of the new (and ugly) HSV utes with the day time running lights and they were only released a short time ago - sad comparison and explains why they could be canning it.

Hopefully the resale on my BFII SP will pickup if that's the case. I'm still recovering from a heart attack of a 50% loss in value within 2 years...... No wonder the SP sales are shyte house!

Well technically there is no reason not to. There is not the huge R&D cost as it is already done.

And the only people who would get upset at this would not buy a F6 anyway would they......

Update, the new V8 platform aka "coyote"

But guys, this is not gospel, it is secret squirrel info and while I am not often wrong when I publish these things, it is not a fact until FPV announce it.

Remember the 320kw BA GT-P, supercharged BOSS, track suspension option etc etc etc.....

i wonder if people get upset at this sort of news because they were a genuine potential buyer, or if they think its some sort of contest to have your car at the top of the sales charts so you have something to brag to your holden mates about.

whilst ford may keep an eye on how many the opposition sells, i doubt it would influence any decision they make. they have accountants and marketing people who work out whether its viable to continue with a model or drop it. no point building something if its not making you money.

Put this into perspective, FPV sold just over 200 P/SP utes last year..........
A fair wack of those would have been dealer floor stock cleared with discounts... Resale value shows an interesting story.

Crap news, I hope this remains just a rumour.

Last thing we need to do is hand the premium performance ute market to HSV on a platter.

Unfortunately I think you'll find they not only invented it but have allways owned it anyway...
