Unhappy Club Track day at Sandown

I was going through last prep for the club sprint day next weekend, bleeding brakes, changing rear pads etc... and the engine made a rattling noise??? :

I checked everything that I could including taking off the rocker cover with no luck as to what the problem is. out:

I thought it might be the new muffler tha I had installed but it is actually coming from the engine block and could be the cam or valve gear as it stops rattling when I bring up the revs :

So lets hope that the sickie I am going take this week will be enough time to get the green machine ready for Sunday :

I wouldn't mind coming out for a look and maybe take some pics.

Are there any details on the days event?

Sure, its on next Sunday at Sandown. Gates (not the Dandenong Rd gates but the entry off Springvale Rd) will open from about 7.30am but we do have to supply a list of names for approxmate numbers.

I'll have some more details placed on here shortly.

Okay here is the update Gary.

The action (cars on the track) won't start until about 9.30am so prior to that it is just scruitineering.

You won't be able to just wander around the track, nor stand right down next to the fence, but there is some really good shots coming onto the front straight. Of course if you want to flag marshall you can get some excellent shots, that are really close to the action.

Hope to see you there.

Thanks mate. Yeah I don't know what it is but it smooths out when the revs get higher, and the noise is coming from the rear part of the engine near the firewall... any ideas?

Manual or auto?
Does the sound appear to be from cyl head area or a rear main area?

Just a question what does one have to do to take their car on the track?

You have to be a member of a CAMS affiliated Club (of which this club is) and have a Level 2 licence and obviously enter for the day through the organising club.

No special requirements needed for car except fire extinguisher, secondary bonnet restraint, neck to wrist to ankle clothing and a helmet.

Hope this helps

it better be ready for Phillip island mr phoon
you could of tasted some real power and used my car as were off to Oran Park for the v 8 s i can lease it out at a good price and it would give a couple of those HSV cars a bit of a touch up

have a good day and try a few different things corner entry and exit speeds and reducing braking distances

I would love to try new things, but alas I will not be playing on Sunday.

The flywheel is loose and I will not have time to dismantle everything to replace the bolts... out:

How much for the old beast GRNKPR?
