I've heard VB and Crowny are from the same vat too...
Maybe they were fermented using the same ingredients, maybe in the same vat too. VB is a bitter and Crown a lager which means that it was probably cold condioned for a while compared to VB to get a slightly smoothe taste, VB not so. Give VB a crack when you're not feeling 100% and it has some serious fish hooks! |

Depends for me. Sometimes a VB couldnt taste any better, other times its so - so.
Dont like Crownies, they are too smooth. (i tried some champers at xmas, was absolute crap. Turned out to be quite an expensive bottle. So i have learnt that the taste should on no account be influenced by the price, or whatever!) I dont mind the Cascade stuff. Pure Blonde is a surprisingly nice beer. I really like the stuff they sell at one of the pubs here, its a local beer and really nice, even their light beer is nice, only light beer that tastes ok. |

Was on Heinekin for a couple of years, now onto Becks. Corona with LIME, not Lemon. ( Yes there's a difference )
Best of the Aussie Beers, Maybe a James Squire Amber Ale - or any one will do, Boags were ok, but like Crownies, I feel are over-rated ( well, over priced for the taste ).. Other than that, Coopers will do nicely. My 'taste' is for the sweeter beers. Nowadays, i'm not a fan of the Carltons, although I had my share of Hahn ICE as a youngster ( when it was 5.2% ) and Carlton Cold has been consumed by the pallet.... Can't go past ' U Brew It ' ( make your own home brew ) for a good Becks. You can drink it till you fall over and never wake up with a hangover. God bless preservative free beer.. Cheers. |

Abbot's lager and Tankard Bitter, showing my age, both 70's beers.
CUB in Abbottsford and Courage breweries in Broadmeadows, Vic. These days i drink wine so Coopers, Boags and Cascade are my local favourites when I do drink beer, that old VB remake is nice also. Then again, if if it's got a percentage mark on the side of the bottle it's passable. |

In Tassie at Xmas time, and found Cascade Draught not too bad, but being from the North of Tassie originally, got re-aquainted with some old friends i.e Boags Classic in the 500ml tube, and Boags XXX ale. :

Finally! A topic I know something about!! After running pubs for 27 years I think I can discuss beer fairly convincingly.
Quote:
Also, Crown Lager & Fosters Lager are not even brewed at the same plant, let alone the same vat. As a side note: to judge a beer on it's presentation from Crown Casino is overly harsh. Very few people in that place could poor a decent beer if their life depended on it! But if you want a decent beer I have about 70 or 80 bottles of Kaptn's Krap in need of sampling.: |

Good to hear Chimay got a mention that is probably the best beer I have ever tasted, and yes it is brewed by Monks, but yeah as previously stated it costs a bomb!
On the home front, I think Aus brewers make some great beers. My old faithful is Coopers Pale but I love Sparkling also. other mentions would be Beez Neez, Little Creatures Pale and Bohemian Pilzner |

Regarading CUB, I meant labelled CUB products.
I know Cascade is owned by CUB, but it was previously an independent brewery and they've continued to use their own recipe. Traditional CUB beers are the same as ever and as a result, taste poor. |

Coopers Heritage Ale which I had at the Windy Point restraunt was absolute bliss. It's the only place I've been able to find it, so there'd be no hope finding it in other states.
My favourite local beers come from the apple isle. James Boags premium is brilliant. Cascade premium is also a very nice drop. |

I reckon Beez Neez is pretty fantastic. From that list though, I'd go the Boags.
