Police do extensive training both practically and theory and are well aware of the consequences of a pursuit and thus make constant risk assessments and quite often call pursuits off. Obviously being human though and so many variables involved things can go wrong, as appears to be the case in what you claim. To just gob off in general at police is hardly fair. I personally have been involved in two police pursuits in the past three days and can say your comments are neither correct nor helpful.

Hey, sorry if I hit a nerve with my post.
Really, really sorry about ya mum, I'm sure the officer is too who will have this on his mind for rest of his life.

Know how you feel but in opposite way - my 3yo nephew crossing the road got killed by a speeding driver who was never found.
But unfortunately there is no turning things back, so ease up on the boys in blue - no one is perfect but they do their best to keep us and our families safe.

Come on all, how bout pulling the pin on cop bashing ehh ?

What has all this got to do with the thread subject?

Nothing...just more Police bashing...
I totally agree with your viewpoint but your delivery is a bit ACA.

I think the police are highly trained competent drivers, and wish every state would adopt a policy that running from the cops = mandatory jail time - but you don't hear of too many high speed pursuits with rock spiders and can't immediately recall any with rapists. Murderers very rarely, but drug dealers I will certainly give you. Rock spiders might have high-speed broadband though.

Doesn't matter what the offence though - fail to pull over and you should get time. And they should be able to chase you down (without being cowboys) which they often do. Sorry for your loss Insider, but very (VERY) rare that a fatality resulting from a high speed pursuit is from a collision with a cop car, and in my opinion any blame for any loss of life through high speed pursuit lays with the offender.

While the police will always do their best, there is only one person that can guarantee a safe resolution for all and it ain't those doing the chasing. The offender is the only one that can safely end it at any time by pulling over. Granted it is easy for me to say as it was not me that lost someone close.

Bitchin' cop-fleet by the way, but at the end of it's service life I doubt there will be much stashed down the back of the passenger-side back seat. Still worthy of its own special call-sign though.

How did this topic become so off track, it started about a new GT being modded and used by the boys in blue, to, can the police drive and a couple of people passing away.

Come on guys let talk about the cop car and see how great it is that a top highway cop has the same passion for fords and a GT as we all do.

I also find it hypocritical, if they pulled over a 400kw falcon it would be defect, all these people hes hanging out with with hot cars would also have a defect from him on a wrong day.

People get one bad experience with cops, and immediately think they are all bad. I've been pulled over only 4 times (3 RBT and ONE bad cop). The three others, when it was concluded (the RBT) said "nice car". Put a smile on my face!

This has to be one the most beautiful Police cars I have seen!

If the GT RSpec was involved ever in a high speed pursuit I will go eat my hat. Only time is if on its way to an offical function and gets side tracked~ Lets get a little real about the role of this and its these little things that just keep pushing the FPV in the eyes of the public.

Anyway enough thread de-rail from me, it is a nice car, but why a GT? did tax payers, pay for a premuim sound system too?

Driving road trains? Not really a city thing, you must have done that when you were "outback".

My skills do not include driving road trains although I am rather good at hunting down resurrected banned members and deporting them if they continue to demonstrate that they have not learned their lesson.

Hi. I have to agree that as a cop car it has the ball to to the job but as a 150th birthday car that is going on display all over NSW and then being kept as a museum piece all I can say is the "graphics package" and "light bar" let the team down. A blue/white chequered pattern in the "R-Spec" shape and a light bar that hugs the roof with rounded edges and a return to the "removable" window mounter radar so that the car looks the part would "sell" the "image" much better. Cheers MD

Well you cant get into a lot of bother just poodling around at 90k's (unless your going Nth or West from Pt Augutter).

As for those that keep coming up with the old chestnut. 'Waste of taxpayers money'..... 'why a GT'... etc.

This a PR exercise kiddies! Paid for by the NSW Motor Accidents Authority.
Perhaps the knockers would have been happier if Mr Plod spent the money on a fully sic FWD imported shoebox!

The amount of good PR that they would have got just from it's first outing is priceless, and helps to show that not all HP coppers are the gung-ho types typically shown on the ACA type Police chase shows.

Victoria Police had a yellow GTO Monaro, which was lent by Holden to Vic Pol, about 10 years ago. It was set up as a Highway Patrol car and did do patrol duties in and around the city but was not allowed to engage in urgent duty driving including pursuits. I would not be surprised if this GT was in a similar sort of arrangement. It is great to see local product driven by our police, especially the best that is on offer!
