bugga looks like there diferent than yours,in these 3pics the back has been machined down to give a 5 1/4inch back space



this pic shoes the diference /thickness in the back space between the 2

I've just bought a set of 29X15.5 MT's to fill out the rear end of my coupe. If I measured properly, they should fit perfectly.

Diff has been bought and I measured it to suit my 10" rims, but will probably get a set of 12" rims so the sidewall bulge isn't huge.

Great wheels boys.
I would love to find another 2 of those Sampson engineering wheels, as i have a pair of what i think are 10's. So if anyone knows of another pair in a 15" diameter please let me know.

howdy doody guys ,i was playing cars last night n fitted my sampsons with good year track tyres ,to my cobra n went for a spin,fooooking hell if your looking for a tyre to race your coupe on these suckers stick like poo to a blanket,i noticed a diference straight away,the coupe held corners likes its never done befor :evil3:

26 1/2x10x 15 good year track tyres used on american cobras : =around 295in normal lingo, but they are taller and look fatter ,the rims have a 5.1/4 back space and the car is lowered 2inch n no rubing , i have kaind the guts out out of the cobra hitting corners harder than ever b4 :evil3: l: ) clocked up around 300km on em so far no drama, they are a soft compound n will wear faster ,one of the down sides is they fling up small rocks like crazy .but no visable signs of excesive tyre were i was told would happen : ) for my 1st try at a track tyre , im impressed ,

they will fit on 10s but not sure about fitting under standard rear quarters .equivelant size would be about 295/60/15 hope this helps

Jack iv been useing the good year track tyres on my coupe for a few days now and to say im disapointed is just sooo wrong: ) nothing comes close to em, : sticks like glue, much harder to bag it up now also: ( :evil3: but i do try : )worth a look if you want your coupe to stick

no stress Wild heigh ,if you go 10inch wide try to get 5,1/4inch back space ,5inch is most comon but 5,1/4 is the best : )as for rims im allfor old school rims on coupes: )sorry to my buddies with new school rims

Thanks cob115. I have given a lot of thought to trying new wheels on the car, but I just don't like it. I currently have hot wires - and I HATE them - plus they are too small (15inch but not wide enough).
I think the way I will go is aftermarket Globes in 16 inch with wide and deep dish style...
But I think the best option are Simmons - polished up with deep dishes in V5 style.

But I have never seen a decent set for sale on ebay. I think I will have to have them made up - which I am told will cost $3500 just for the rims.
Aftermarket Globes in wide and deep dish style will only cost $1400...

I guess I was just hoping for a miracle and someone to pop up and say YES - you can buy mine!!
oh well....

Looks like I won't have my Cobra on the road until 2010

Good luck with your search. COB115 has great advice regarding back space. Be aware the aftermarket Globe look alikes tend to have a shallow back space which will put the outer sidewall onto your rear wheel arches.

I'd look at American Racing Torq Thrust II, there are a variety of back spacings available and you still get old skool kool!!

Th problem with 16" is you can't get decent wide rubber for them. 255/50x16 is pretty much it. I'd go with 15" or 17".

I've gone the Challenger route in 15 * 10 for the rear and 15 * 8 on the front in the charcoal to suit my red pepper GT. Spent all morning at the tyre shop trying different sizes but the front wheels were the major problem. All new Pedders standard height suspension and did not want to lip the guards. Even with only 4.5 inch backspace could fit 295's OK on the back but 265 * 50's just rubbed on the front when on 3/4 lock and were a pig to steer on rutted country roads. They rub on the bottom of the guard at the front of the wheel, not the back as some others reckon. Tried 235 * 60's but they looked way too big and rubbed at less than 1/2 lock.
Would like to have tried 235 or 245 * 50 but just could not find them so 225 * 50 was the go. The difference in diameter from 295 to 225 just didn't look right so settled for 265's on the rear and 225's on the front. Looks pretty good size wise and handles beautifully at 100 or better. Will post pics soon.

for the fronts, the height of the 235 is the problem, obviously not the width. a 235 x 15 x 50 would probably suit perfectly. i was hoping to get this size, but the tyre place could not get any. it seems there are some tyres in that size, but not many. a 245 x 15 x 50 should also fit - bf goodrich make/made that, but not all tyre places will be able to get them in or be bothered getting them in
you can adjust the caster forward slightly to fit the 235 x 15 x 60 but in my opinion the front tyre being taller than the rear does not look that great, plus the wheel is no longer centred in the wheel arch. to me a 50 series tyre up to 245 is the way to go. however, 225's are the easiest to find in 50 series to suit a 7 or 8 inch rim

I had rubbing issues when i had 235/60/15s on my 15x8 inch magnums but now that i have changed to the 15x7 centerline on the front the 235/60 has about 15mm clearance which is great!! I reckon i could go a 245/60 on the front with no issues. Ive also gone for a 60 profile on the back in a 275 so the front tyre doesnt look bigger.

how was that - the problem i found with the rubbing was it was not rubbing on the guard or suspension but on the shell. it was on this bit and except for the offset being different, i cannot see any way the wheel width size can alter it

however, you may have found something to help all xa-xc owners who have yet to buy their wheels

This is the exact area of the problem with big tyres on the front. If the guards have been modified at the front the shell issue can be solved with 50 series tyres, 3deg of caster and modifying the seam that protrudes into the wheel well. For a reference have a look at the www.yokohama.com.au web site at Y352 size chart. It shows diameter, etc. Here's a couple of figures

235/60 x 15 Dia. 665mm
235/60 x 14 Dia. 638mm

265/50 x 15 Dia. 648mm

So as you can see the 265/50 is actually smaller in Dia than the 235/60 15 and fills the guards big time. I run 265/50 x 15 on the front of the Goss and only the Left side just rubs as it passes the shell, bulkhead area show in the previously posted pic. Most times you need to be listening for the noise it's that minor.

Bottom line its like all mods, 1 thing leads to 5 more and it's all a compromise. If you want big wheels and tyres the car needs to set up for them during prep not after it's had new paint etc.

Hope this doesn't come off as a rant. Just trying to help.

that is true graham
generally with 50 series the height problem is not there even without altering the caster (maybe it needs a little adjustment with the 245 and 265), but as you quite rightly suggested the 235 x 60 is bigger than the 265 x 50 and that is when my problem arose. also it is just my opinion, but the rolling diamter of the front should not be bigger than the rear. it should maybe even be smaller to give subtle rake



an interesting point is that my 15 inch wheel with 225 x 50 are smaller in rolling diamter than my 14 inch wheel with 235 x 60. it is obvious when you do the sums, but i would not have thought that at first

Yes mine was rubbing in the exact spot and what it was doing was catching the corner of that bolt on plate and flicking it up turning it into a knife of sorts which then cut through my tyres and made a hell of a mess!!
I have no idea why the clearance is so good now since bolting on the 7s but it made a massive difference!! When i get a chance i will rip one of the front wheels off and see what the backspace is, It may help someone

all really valuable info fellas. top stuff. I've been searching for 1 year now....for he right wheels style, but also the right size. One thing I hadn;t given thought to were the front rims/tyre size. I know I want big 295's on the rear, but thought little about how the front should look.
This has given my greater clarification. Though its all still doin my head in!
For example I hadn;t considered sourcing tyres for 16 inch rims. Above I read that 15 inch rims are easier to find big tyres for...

Hi everyone,

Trying to go back to the original wheels and hubcaps on my Landau. Could someone advise what era steel rims are suitable for my Landau? I know they came out with 15 by 6 inch rims and was going to source a set of rims from a 1990’s series Falcon (EB-EL). Are these suitable? What tyre size/brand would be suitable?
My car is currently sitting on Magnum style 15x8 and 15x10inch.
