Yeah mid to late 2014 the talk was an auto shortage but since manufacturing started there seems to be a lot more autos than manuals rolling out of the factory..

Maybe the rumour mill had the scoop but got their autos n manuals mixed up lol

Most cars these days are literally 95% auto, Ford has been caught out as its been around 50/50 with the XR8 (and the GTF)

No got holidays coming up next week and the engine and box will be out for some TLC and upgrading ( the odd bit of chrome might creep in to!)

I'd still entertain the idea they have a stash stockpiled for a 2016 LE model n if it happens I'll be more than happy for those that get their hands on it!

For me though picking up my black manual after 10months next Friday is just what can I say, I'm gonna be one proud Ford man with a piece of Australian motoring heritage sitting in my shed for many years to come..

GETTIN CLOSE NOW HAHA!!!

It depends on whether your dealer has been switched over to the new system whereby emails are sent to the customer updating them on the status of the vehicle (stage 1: receipt of order ; stage 2 build ; stage 3 transport ; stage 4 pre-delivery). I ordered mine in February and got the stage 1 email a couple of weeks ago (as my dealer has only just now been changed over to the new system). Having said that, I was informed by Ford Service on Facebook that my XR8 is in build (I had to ask them), and I haven't received the stage 2 email. I know of guys who are driving their XR8s who have not yet received the stage 2 email (lol), so obviously the system is far from perfect. Mine is scheduled for an August delivery and all seems on track. I'd recommend contacting JW (not sure what his/her initials stand for) at Ford Service on Facebook. Quote your DSC code and they should be able to tell you what's going on. I've had great feedback from them.

Thank you for the info. I found out they "dropped the ball" and not ordered till recently. so here I was thinking Hello August, Wrong.. I got the Dealer Principal and solved it, well a great solution. Had to change colour but White is very good

A lot of people think that manual is the only way to go, but after doing almost 5000km with my auto, it is phenomenal. I can downshift coming up to lights if I want, I get a rev/pop/crackle, and when I get lazy, I switch it back to full auto. If it didn't have sequential, I'd be wishing for a manual, but with it, I get the best of both worlds.

Auto is not the end of a fun driving experience, and is also not a compromise.

I see where you're coming from. No matter how much the auto can emulate the manual with features and functionality it's still missing a pedal...

There's a certain feel or joy in changing gears and engaging the clutch which an auto can't re-produce.

Manual vs Auto the Auto will smoke the manual everytime, agreed.

My XR8 is a manual and a weekender. If it was a daily I would of got the auto.

I ordered a manual for a couple of reasons.
1 being the wife will be the main driver and she wanted a manual after having auto BF & FG. Be interesting to see how she finds the clutch and shift - i see differing opinions on it being too heavy etc
& just for something different, although my dealer tells me that 3 other people had ordered kinetic manuals from them so maybe i should have gone auto!

But why? Is it because that is what the collector wants or is that in the past, generally speaking, manual gearboxes were superior to autos? Or perhaps because there were far more manuals than autos?

I think you might find that the tide is changing with respect to the mix of gearboxes new car buyers choose, and I think this will flow through to the collectors at some point in time.

I personally would pay a premium for a manual in the second hand market. Others would probably prefer an auto.

Auto Falcons have always outsold manuals, even back in the early days.

I cant think of any used performance car where an auto model is more sort after than a manual.

Enthusiasts are what keep cars valuable, not people who dont care.

Great to hear that you got your car. But with regards to manuals there are no issues. Some dealers have just received another allocation of cars and trans choices are open.

That may well be the case, but back in the early days, an auto was hardly considered to be the better performing gearbox?

I think it's collectors that keep cars valuable, not necessarily just enthusiasts. Some of those collectors wouldn't care as to what type of gearbox the vehicle has. And perhaps even some of those enthusiasts would actually prefer to have the better performing gearbox.

Anyway, we can discuss this until we've run out of breath, but only time will tell. All I know is that the past is not necessarily a good indication as to what will happen in the future.....

Unfortunately this is not correct, the dcb released states that all of the further allocation for the remainder of 2015 are auto, no option to transfer transmission as they are locked. So anyone who has been waiting for man, and hasn't got a car or eta yet they'll be next year. Sorry

Yes, I agree. I have the ZF in my FG2 XR6, and if I had my time over, I would have gone for the manual. The ZF is a decent auto, but the thing with autos is they get superseded very quickly. When in the 'manual shift' gate, it will not hold the selected gear when you put your foot down and allow me to use the torque of the engine to full effect (and no, I'm not stupid with it like trying to hang onto a gear below 1500 revs, etc). Also, the upshift is clunky on the overrun. The final nail is the problems experienced with contamination of the trans fluid if/when the cooler line running through the radiator ruptures. The car has done only 15000 kays and I love it, but the manual experiences no such dramas (assuming the driver can use a clutch properly), it is a 'life of the vehicle' unit (whereas the auto requires a 100,000 kay 'box out' service). I'll be looking at an aftermarket oil cooler to bypass the crap Ford OEM setup as soon as I can.
Plus, the driver involvement of a manual is hugely satisfying if you can heel-toe and double clutch properly.
My XR8 is due in August, and she's a manual. Wouldn't have it any other way.

The more I drive my FGX XR8 the more I love the manual box. It is very precise, and downchanges so well even at very high revs.

Something so enjoyable shift into neutral, blip throttle to rev match, downshift 2 gears, mash the accelerator and blast past an annoyance with the Miami wailing like a banshee, with the rear doing a mini squirrel dance side to side.

Only thing that has caught me out a number of times in spirited driving is second to third, claw of death changes (am a control freak). Have had to learn the open palm method simply pushing forwards and allowing box to find 3rd, but am finally working it out.

Fantastic box-cannot understand the wingers journos saying it is agricultural...

Also love the manual mate, u will find 2nd to 3rd n the gearbox in general won't settle down for 30 thousand odd kms. There is also different oil to try in them I can't remember what it was n never tried it myself but it's on this forum somewhere, others have claimed it really makes the TR6060 a better box.

Hi Tbm1121,

I have a sido and the 1st stage email from Ford.
Dealer tells me car is due in October.
Will i still get a manual?
