Have a manual license and drive a manual. My first car was a auto so it was interesting getting into a manual after not driving one for at least 4 years. I can honestly say I would go back to a auto only if it was a half decent six speed ie the zf box in a car with a decently sized engine.

When I was on my P's I had an auto licence.(easier to pass the test) After the P's expired I'm permitted to drive anything. Manuals are no probs, it kind of came naturally to me.

Im not a real fan of the option. I think that if you do not have the co-ordination to drive a manual, you shouldnt be able to get a licence.
But yea, both auto and manual cars have their pros and cons |

Manual licence all the way, the only times I've driven autos were now with the fairmont (try finding a manual) and when I was on my p's and had a bung knee so I couldn't clutch properly, all cars before the fairmont were all manual. But the 3pot suzi was brilliant for coming to terms with city traffic and a clutch being absolutely gutless so you had to get good very soon

EA2 was the last fairmonts available with manual IIRC
Sorry to ask again, but does anyone know the penalty for driving a manual car on their auto P's, or whats involved in changing from an auto license to manual?

Manual, My missus has an auto which sucks because alot of my cars are manual.
I agree with all those that say there should be 1 test and it should be manual, except for disabilities and so forth |

I also got mine just before they brought in the manual/auto thing in NSW, however only drove a manual once. It was a 68 mini with a ten foot long gear shift (only a slight exaggeration too!) and it was a nightmare. Oh, sorry, twice, I drove an XE Fairmont manual for about 5 min and it was a dream car (and not overly old at the time). I know 'how' to drive a manual, and if it was all on the flat, no problems (might bunny hop now and again), however I would have a problem on a bit of an incline I hate to say. In an emergency if I had to, I would, and would be relatively safe (having had 15yrs driving experience). Would love to practise, but have no access to a manual car to practise on, not confident enough to buy a cheapie and drive it home and way to embarrased to admit that to a seller and have it towed home to practise in my quiet surrounding side streets!!!

Just a fine and a demerrit point I think.
I've got a manual probationary license, I get to drive all sorts of auto cars at work and I find them all absolutely horrible, I had to drive this new Civic "sport" with an auto transmission, my god the Civic is a horrible car made even worse with the auto transmission. |
