Interesting but not surprising that China is now starting to say sovereign states should be respected. IMHO for no other reason than allowing the Eastern Ukrainian locals to vote on their allegiances in a referendum will be a difficult precedent for them to encourage with Taiwan on their mind.

Ahh yes, the whole world, apart from about 4 countries, have got it completely wrong. Russia is clearly defending itself from those agressive Ukranians who are trying invade Moscow.

Putin has officially announced they have annexed Ukrainian territory after the fake and illegal elections.
Now is the time to step **** up and push them out and the world will give Ukraine more lethal and long range weapons now after this bull****. The biggest hero in the world right now is the one who gives Putin a bullet behind the left listener |

Darth Putin on Twitter: "Day 219 of my 3 day war. Russian soldiers in strategically important Donbass town of Lyman are *not* surrounded. They have chance to fight Ukrainian army from all directions. I remain a master strategist." |

Its been 7 months since the invasion started. So who is winning? Or, maybe the question should be, who is losing? Putin seems to have achieved another objective that was stated from the beginning, and all the while using inept "soldiers" (more like farmers, teachers, plumbers) and obsolete weapons.
The UN security council just had a meeting to pass a resolution to not recognise the annexation. Russia vetoed obviously, but China, India and Brazil abstained.

Hasn't Ukraine steadily been pushing the invaders out of Donbas since start of this month, and taking control of major supply hubs?
I know Russia call it a tactical regrouping as opposed to withdrawal, but not sure I buy that given the Russians are abandoning so much equipment and munitions as they flee without having time to destroy or booby-trap any of it. Ukraine has 'liberated' so much weaponry from the retreating Russians this month alone to make Russia the biggest arms supplier to Ukraine since the war started - not even counting what the tractor brigade claimed earlier this year. Are you saying Russia's gradual retreat from Donbas was an objective? Or has the battle turned significantly in Russia's favour in the last few hours? Last I heard there was thousands of Russian troops encircled in Lyman, which is yet another major logistical hub for Russia due to their reliance on rail |

Have only heard that the people voted, and the region is now under Russian control. Don't know about the rest. Will be interesting to see who is going to take it away from him.
Think the only way he will lose the region is if there is a mass revolution from within, not sure how likely that is. Just heard another resolution will be put forward to condemn the annexation at the UN General Assembly, meaning all members will get to vote. Happening next week apparently.

So you are ignoring: Referendums were illegal under international law It is not just western nations that refuse to recognise the referendums and their results **** all people actually voted Of those that voted, some were forced to vote at gunpoint as per below: https://twitter.com/NOELreports/stat...5Es1_&ref_url= https://twitter.com/maksymeristavi/s...5Es1_&ref_url= Many of Russia's own propaganda photos show blank ballots: https://twitter.com/ukrbravery/statu...5Es1_&ref_url= Ok, sure |

So just heard Zelensky has applied to formally join NATO. Interesting, NATO "rules" say they can't admit a member who is having a territory dispute (or conflict I thought?). If you were Zelensky, would you give up the Donbass to join NATO? And remember, NATO is defence only (apparently), so you can't attack the Donbass to reclaim it after joining. Which would you choose?

So I then ask, why have the world watch your army hold voters at gun point? Why not just send pro Putin Russians over the border, smile for the camera, and pretend to vote? Better still, why not just use army personnel already there and pretend to be civilians? Much easier! Anyway, we'll know soon enough if its real. I don't think the inept "army" can hold back 4m people, or however many million there is left, uprising. All IMHO of course. Someone else can have a turn now, watching this stuff is depressing.

Yes, I know the likely reasons why. By proclaiming those regions to be parts of Russia they can then claim that Ukrainian's offensive to push the occupiers out of those parts of Ukraine is actually an attack on Russia instead, allowing them to go to full mobilisation and also continue their bluster about using nukes. Question has to be asked though - why is that necessary? Just use the 90% of their 'proper' forces and the best of their equipment that they supposedly have not thrown into the conflict for some unknown reason |

Does it matter? bottom line is what should have been over in a week has dragged on to the point of ridiculous ,not Russias first rodeo with similar events if you go back a bit,all Putin has left is some ranting re nukes albeit tactical blah blah (yawn) so that leaves us with A Zelensky decides enough were done which wont happen or B Putin backs up the rants which i doubt though if he indeed does the Ukraine being a Nato member or not will mean little the response will be the same.

Totally agree with the last few posts.
Putin is a Narcissistic, Sociopathic, Megolamaniac. I'm sure probably 95% or more of the Russian population want nothing to do with this B/S confrontation. And I'm sure his EX Billionare friends are 'overjoyed' about the action he took. |

The absolute last thing that the US would do is look for a war with China; when is the last time the US had a war of their - the US - choice against anyone they thought could put up any sort of opposition?
And the US attacking North Korea? Not going to happen. North Korea is in Asia, not the Middle East. In other words, North Korea is a long way from Israel. |
