And its very easy to get used to the euro stalks, I swap with my EL all the time and have no issues. As for the engine bay, who cares, send it to the Dealership to get fixed.

What about a Laser SR2? Maybe they are just over the budget.
I nearly got one of these a few years back: Laser Lynx. Good quality car. http://www.carsales.com.au/used-cars...atchallpartial Or what about a Ford Probe...seriously.

Again, another car I was interested in, but I just couldn't live with the name (and FWD). Another one is a cougar, but they might be a bit pricey.

Have a look at Corollas (boring as bat-**** inside, but they go well and are fairly cheap to service), Fiestas (pretty small but well-built), Civics (good chassis etc but maybe pricey when it comes to servicing), Pulsar SSS (top engine, a little plain) or personally I'd be looking at a Focus hatch (great ride, pretty well built inside, no major dramas).
$10k+ is good money for a car, don't waste it on a Proton; especially an older one.

If you were to get a Proton, get a GTi model. I wouldn't bother about any others.
Also for that price range, N15 Pulsar SSS or Lancer, or save some money and find a optioned up Hyundai Accent, or base model Getz. Older model Civs can be good as well. |

There's plenty of options for 11k.
You could throw Hyundai or Mazda in the mix? IMO experience a Hyundai you can literally drive into the ground. The only things I hated about the S coupe I used to own? People kept smashing into it and a rubber timing belt. I had it for 10 years and it owed me $700. I did all my own servicing, I don't trust anyone else to service my car. Especially when their is bugger all they can do. Off loaded @ 240,000k's. I replaced it with an 02 Astina (323). It's a good car requires bugger all too. No rubber timing belt either. Does 600k and sometimes over to a tank whether the aircon is on or off. The only bad point? Road noise. Mazda never put enough deadening in the car. I've had the car 3 years now and it's needed nothing (150,000k's so far). Toyota's? IMO if ones the right $? You can go past them. They go forever. There's plenty of options available. When I buy my small cars the only prerequisite I have is manual g/box only. Auto's are awfull in combination with 4cyls.

I'd suggest a 323 Astina. They are quite well built, and for a small hatchback, they do look quite sporty.

You couldnt go wrong with a Mazda/Laser... The Mazda will cost a bit more, but is basically the same car. I had a KJ II laser for 6 years, did a 200,000+ km and thrashed it every time i got in it from day dot, and it never missed a beat, the only regret i had at the time, was getting the 1.6 and not the 1.8, as the 1.6 had drum brakes on theback, which were more expensive to get replaced than the front. So would recommend steering for the 1.8 or the SR2/Maz SP20... If you wanted to go down that path....

Mazda SP 20. These little care are awesome. Little more $$ than 11k, but they go real well. 2litre engine, nice n sporty too. 16 inch mags airbags etc...
http://www.webwombat.com.au/motoring..._mazdasp20.htm I used to work on the Opel Barinas. Poxy rotten things. Ask any of the H@lden Mechanics, when these come in to be worked on, the mechanics all try to pass em off th the apprentices. |
