Aussie is built on Coal power stations, Stupid pollies cant bring them selfs to agree on nuclear energy.(dumb ****s) but the contaminants from power stations(they warn the atmosphere) They dont get into your lungs the moment a diesel ****ter passes you on the freeway. Europe kill 500,000 people a year through the **** that spews out of there smelly cars. How many do there nuc power stations kill. Don't bother wrecking your brain, the awnser is fck all.

250 diesel drivers have died from diesel poisoning in Australia in the past year, And all diesel drivers have been advised to drive with there windows up and air con on. If that's not proof enough that these smelly poison laden **** boxes should have 40% tarrifs slapped on them in the name of saving millions of people world wide. WHAT IS???

Diesel is good for one thing & that is long hours behind the wheel which Roddy1960 alludes to & I agree 100%. It was never suitable for stop start driving & short trips and the majority of owners have no concept of the particle filters & service requirements.

I don't see diesel is going anywhere but how we use it is changing.
I consult with a couple of golf courses and I've got to say this is where I'm seeing the most change. Theres alot of hybrid technology appearing due to emission laws, mainly from abroad, but with no local manufacturing industry thats where we have to buy from. Most of the machines still use diesel power for motion but instead of it also powering pto's for implements they're using electric power heads. Perhaps the hybrid technology may trickle down to the transport industry, good old diesel reliability for the open road then switch over to electric tech for the cities, who knows, didn't think I'd see it in my industry twenty years ago...

Yep , Other than a car enthusiast I also have a big interest in rail transport .
In just about every country I can think of with a half decent rail system they are constantly trying to make their services run faster yet cleaner to be able to stay in the game and the pressure is on for that to happen . The really big cities are finding more ways to reduce congestion and pollution and using suburban electric trains as much as possible and where the cost to do so makes sense . just as an example two of the world's biggest locomotive manufacturers GE and EMD (now owned by Caterpillar) must meet Tier 4 emission standards these days and be able to do it that while being cheaper than before . Have a look at this from a little bit back regarding GE that shows that the evolution has been happening for a while now. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=igdP2iSSmf8 . In the USA , Europe and here , new diesel electric locomotives must meet much tougher emission standards and without checking I'd be pretty happy to speculate that truck and bus manufacturers , mining equipment, excavation equipment builders and in maritime applications are under huge pressure to run cheaper and more efficiently otherwise they'll be out of business. In relation to passenger vehicles using diesel , same exact thing . If they can't meet ever stricter regulations how will they remain viable with petrol , hybrid and electric manufacturers. They won't . The smokey chokey stuff that is the bain of a few here is most likely some older tech stuff or huge kilometreage worn out clunkers from a decade or two ago that is fast being superseded and will disappear in time. There's nothing worse than being stuck behind a car or SUV spewing black soot. It won't be long before the diesel tide will turn.
States should also all have their own small nuclear power station (NPS) or share etc. Modern NPS's are not an issue nowadays. Japan's first reactor was built in 1965 and 54 were built with 4 still operating in such a small country. Virtually the whole of the US's Navy is NP including subs. Doesn't seem to cause the crew any issues and once fired up there is no fuel required for at least 50 years. Whereas, all Oz's Navy are noisy diesels that spew crap into the air and ocean and I'd hate to know what the overall taxpayer funded fuel bill is over their life versus nothing for NP. The same would apply to NPS for electricity. Imagine how low our electricity bills could be. The SA Premier wombat makes me laugh with his BS solar and windfarm crap. A bank of massive emergency DIESEL generators were imported from Europe around August last year and some are housed in Holdens old plant. They can be fired up in minutes to combat low power supplies and cost $300 million and if fired up will use 80,000 litres an HOUR and were probably used over the past summer and the SA public reckon their being powered by wind and sun. I first saw the SA windfarm in Oct on a trip to Melb and it was unbelievable. A massive visual pollution and eyesaw that could be seen for miles and many weren't even turning. Totalling screws what otherwise was a nice view of rolling hills. Many counties in the US went down this path years ago and it was a total fail as their lifespan was a joke not to mention their output and now there are rusting windmills farms dotting the landscapes, yet Oz now follows suit. We really are dumb. |

European rule makers previously pushed diesel cars and crossovers for all their worth. How hypocritic they all now appear, switching sides when it suits them to do so without regard to all the people duped into buying diesel cars that are devaluing at a fast rate of knots. The impact for and against is a lot less in Australia, we don't pay Euro prices for fuel and don't have as severe traffic and pollution problems as densely populated Europe. So long as people make informed choices and pick the most suitable vehicles, there's not much more that can be done until technology gives us an affordable solution. |

You try riding a bike behind a diesel for 10 minutes with a right side venting exhaust. That should never be fkn allowed . All stacks should Be 500 mm higher than the cabin. Its not to much to ask. Pollies should get there fingers out of there ****, or there secretaries ****, and change the fkn law.

Co2 Carbon dioxide is natural, it is caused when every person ,and animal breaths out, Plants breath it in for better growth and yields then exhale oxygen for us all to survive. Diesel kills everything it touches. Got it!!!

Maybe you should keep away from roads with your bicycle.Roads are for powered vehicles not pushbikes.Roads are paid for by people paying taxes on the fuel they buy.If you want to ride a bike,get all your fellow pedal pushers to build your own roads and keep off the roads owned by people who pay for them.

I always envisioned a type of diesel/petrol hybrid but using ethanol and having it ignited with micro waves.
Ethanol because it's renewable. Direct injection and lean mixture so no lost Hydro carbons and no Carbon Monoxide. High EGR to lower combustion temperatures, thus no NOx. And use microwaves to ignite the mixture because a flame will not burn in a highly diluted mixture with exhaust gas. The micro waves will not heat petrol, but they heat ethanol at the molecular level to the point of combustion. Just a thought. Peter |
