Sometimes I watch the old Fast Forward/Full Frontal series from the 90's which was comedy far from the poison of political correctness today. When I do watch it, I often think 'man, you wouldnt get away with this kind of humor today'.

Clarkson, 54, also came under fire and nearly lost his job for mumbling a racist version of children's counting rhyme "Eeny, Meeny, Miny, Moe" in an unaired clip.

The presenter released a video apology assuring fans that he was "mortified" by any offence caused by his actions and begging for their forgiveness.

The world has gone mad , we bow to minorities and can't take the **** out of anyone anymore. How many Catholic, Irish , Political jokes have you heard , lost count myself.
The doo gooders are trying to make everyone even and everyone gets a prize or is a winner, well I've got news for them ,life isn't fair nor is everyone equal , just ask the kids in counties of conflict how fair and correct their lives are . Clarkson May and Hammond do not fit into the doo gooders world but they keep me entertained . Thx Fellas.
P.S Clarkson is no fool , he probably let that clip out himself just to improve his ratings Lol.

Isn't Clarkson the new age for 'Shock Factor' on TV? I mean we have seen it ever since I can remember, radio, TV, stand up comedy etc etc...Goddamn there is plenty I don't like on Facebook, but its not like I'm going to throw a tanty about it! I just scroll down or walk out the ******* door and do something with my existence....

Maybe these people constantly complaining should get on a construction site for a day, then they'll see what sexism, racism and how crude people really can be, even if its in jest or not hell I'll admit I am all of those at times but I hate everyone equally and no ones perfect.

I had a laugh at the news report by the dailymail that boasted about getting audio forensics saying something along the lines of " when we slow down the audio and enhance it sounds alot like he is saying the offensive word". Was one of the stupidest things I have ever seen, no integrity whatsoever, how much effort do these people go to shoot Clarkson down.

I grew up with racial slurs everyday of my younger life. Sure it wasn't nice, but it made me tougher today than I ever was. It forced me to see who the insecure idiots are and I either I could laugh it off or jokingly throw something back at them. It also gave me strength in knowing who I would prefer to be friends with.

Not saying it is/isn't ok for others, but I swallowed whole shovels full of concrete to not let it get to me out of preference.

The choice is yours on how you want to deal with this kind of humor, (turn off the tv, change channels, get over it) but forcing others to conform to your over-sensitive bigoted view is not the way to do it either.
Well said.

As a fellow Asian, I too think that too many minority groups get offended over nothing. The moment you so much as mention a colour, you're labelled a racist.

Harden the f up, people!

Yes, this is a multicultural country, yes, we should embrace differences and be more tolerant ... but you know what? It works both ways.

Can I start by saying I have read the whole thread and Muslim Simpsons just cracked me up. I have watched simpsons 14yrs and continue to watch an episode every day. The thought of muslim simpsons is hilarious.

As for top gear, can't really add to what has been said already. I don't see how it is racist, I hate how white people shouldn't dare utter a bad word about another race, but the other races can say whatevet they like about us white people. Just more proof that the people higher up are pandering to the minorities.

For starters :

"And when you rely on a sat nav, you don’t notice that the sun is in the wrong place in the sky. You stop using your inbuilt compass, your innate sense of which way is up. And don’t argue with any of this. Everyone can navigate by instinct, and if you can’t there’s something wrong with you and you should be in prison. The only people who can’t navigate instinctively are women and anyone trying to find Malpensa airport in Milan.

We all know that small cars are good for us. But so is cod liver oil. And jogging.

Speed has never killed anyone, suddenly becoming stationary... That's what gets you.

I've seen better looking gangrenous wounds than this. (Clarkson on the Porsche Cayenne)

(Referring to the Porsche Cayenne) 0-60 takes 5 and a half seconds...and about 17 gallons of fuel....

Now we've been told in this new series, we've got to feature more green cars. So here's one. It's really the greenest car we could find, really. (A bright green Lamborghini Murcielago)

Now we get quite a few complaints that we don't feature enough affordable cars on the show, so we're kicking off tonight with the cheapest Ferrari of them all. (a Ferrari F430)

(At start of Top Gear Nov. 2005 season, after a teaser featuring dozens of supercars) welcome to Greenpeace!

A turbo, exhaust gasses go into the turbocharger and spin it, with a supercharger, air goes in,witchcraft happens and you go faster.

This is the latest S Class. Now available with a very economical: Twin-turbo, Six litre... I don't mean economical do I? That's the wrong word...

I do apologise, we have wasted your evening, there are no good Korean or Malaysian cars. "

A Black sheep is called a black sheep because of two things:
1) it is a sheep
2) it is black

Same with Blackfish

Australia is the land of the dysphemism.
We proudly call a toilet a s***house (crapper, dunny, bog ...), whereas americans say bathroom.

That is our heritage, our culture, and for me to be not allowed to give and take lighthearted insults is actually racist.

That may be the case now, when I was a kid, EVERY VERSE was BAA BAA BLACK SHEEP, the sheep never ever changed colours

It was changed to colours as it is seen as racist to call a black sheep , a black sheep.
By the way have you ever seen any Red, or Green, or Blue sheep in paddocks?

Someone anyone please tell me, when you were in kindy or subsequent age and sung BAA BAA Black Sheep. Were you singing it for the racial taunt supposedly towards ethnic colours? Or were you singing it because its what everyone else was doing and it rhymed.....

KIDS AREN'T RACIST!! They don't even know the meaning half the time, the only time you have a racist child is if the parents are highly racist and even then if you ask them 'why do you hate the blacks' they don't know, only the grain fed bullshit their one chromosome parents feed them.

Hell one of my closest mates is Black I lived in the heart of Melbourne and went to city schools, you have every race under the sun there! I even tell him to go back to his cotton fields when hes being a pain in the ***....and you know what? He likes to point out how hes better at dancing, running, has a bigger dick and god knows what else because hes black but yet we don't care we are mates and its only joshing around at the end of the day.

I'll never understand Racism of purely hating a race based on their colour.

I thought we laid this myth to rest in posts 34 and 35. One or two stories were distorted and exaggerated beyond recognition by someone with a barrow to push. But some are determined to believe it's true, and very much determined to be offended by it. Can you see the irony here, you're campaigning against what you percieve to be a case of political correctness trying not to offend any group of people. But in doing so you're issuing a top down decree on what children should and shouldnt be singing, lest your own delicate sensibilities are offended...

This is so banal. You've missed the point. Kids and teachers sing about all different colours of sheep, including black ones, because kids sometimes like to mix things up a bit and don't really care much what colour sheep really are.

If nursery rhymes must stick with cold hard reality, since when do we have talking sheep who understand the English social class system? Is Baa Baa Black Sheep meant to be some sort of symbolic manifesto that describes our beliefs about how we think society should be ordered, like you're suggesting? Or is it just a friggin nursery rhyme that kids like to mix around? Children don't always care about accuracy - we've got a kinder kids drawing on the fridge at the moment: there's a dog with a green and purple head emanating pink lovehearts, a flying cat and a blue man who looks like he has a severe case of elephantiasis. All appear to be defying the laws of physics but they're using their imaginations.

This is another myth. Fairy penguins/Little Penguins are informal nicknames. These common names vary over the years and depending on your location (e.g. in New Zealand they're commonly called the Little Blue Penguin). Common names can start to get confusing and unreliable when there's so many. The scientific name for the Little/Fairy penguin is Eudyptula minor (meaning 'good little diver'). To reflect this, in 1974 the Australian Common Names Committee decided to go with the common name Little Penguin. Yes this happened 40 years ago.

My word, having a Kindy teacher as a partner makes you the expert on all this
And wow, no one else is allowed to have an opinion?

And the kids only change the colour of the sheep in the rhyme, because they are taught no, not because they like to mix it up

Go back and look at how the Nursery Rhyme was written, it was Black sheep my man
And hey, you are entitled to your opinon, I wont try and belittle you for that

This rhyme was first printed in Tommy Thumb's Pretty Song Book, the oldest surviving collection of English language nursery rhymes, published c. 1744 with the lyrics very similar to those still used today:
Bah, Bah a black Sheep,Have you any Wool?Yes merry have I,Three Bags full,One for my master,One for my Dame,One for the little BoyThat lives down the lane.[1]

A controversy emerged over changing the language of "Baa Baa Black Sheep" in Britain from 1986, because, it was alleged in the popular press, it was seen as racially dubious. This was based only on a rewriting of the rhyme in one private nursery as an exercise for the children there and not on any local government policy.[8] A similar controversy emerged in 1999 when reservations about the rhyme were submitted to Birmingham City Council by a working group on racism in children's resources, which were never approved or implemented.[9] Two private nurseries in Oxfordshire in 2006 altered the song to "Baa Baa Rainbow Sheep", with black being replaced with a variety of other adjectives, like "happy, sad, hopping" and "pink".[10] In 2012, a private nursery in Kingston upon Thames replaced "black" with "little" for their Easter show.[11] Commentators have asserted that these controversies have been exaggerated or distorted by some elements of the press as part of a more general campaign against political correctness.[8]

I'm not claiming expertise. From my partner's perspective this sounds like over-sensitive hysteria and over-analysis, and this is what she does day in day out. She's not aware of any policy anywhere that stipulates how nursery rhymes should be sung, or anyone who's encouraged staff to do that. She works at a progressive artsy inner-city latte-sipping bicycle-riding academia-loving sandal-wearing early learning centre that believe me, if anywhere was really doing this, this would be the place. If you've got any direct experience actually seeing this happening, tell us the details, because at the moment I'm not convinced your above statement is any more than an unsubstantiated vague notion.

She did say teachers will sometimes realise things when kids enquire - for example, they were playing Chinese Whispers, and a child asked why it's called that. She responded "you know what, I've got no idea. It doesn't actually have anything to do with Chinese people." That seems to be a standard common response and is about the extent of the PC brain-washing agenda, and I'm not sure that those conversations with children are so big bad and scary.

This all seems pretty ridiculous to me and probably getting off topic.

For me it boils down to this - if you're looking for an enemy to fight, what's the point in wasting time on a straw one when there are real ones you could go for? Maybe we could just agree on that?

Very good, those are the lyrics, I never said they weren't. And yes, that material was posted in post 35. Years ago one tiny handful of people among the billions on earth tried to push it and it was promptly ignored by everyone. Hardly an epidemic taking over the world.

Has it occurred to you that perhaps some early childhood educators change it to red/green/blue/black/whatever sheep in an effort to strengthen a child's understanding of basic colours? It would also be more stimulating for the children (compared to rote learning a nursery rhyme and repeating it ad nauseam).

I think this is a more likely and sensible explanation than "PC gone mad" if the lyrics are altered.

To reflect this, in 1974 the Australian Common Names Committee decided to go with the common name Little Penguin. Yes this happened 40 years ago.
Myth, how so? Up until 2006 Sea World had them named as fairy penguin but changed the name as "the name is more politically correct". I completely understand that common names can and will change depending on location, person, time or even popularity. Even if some government body did decide to go with "little penguin" it is obvious that the vast majority of Australia didn't get the memo as fairy penguin was/is both widely used and accepted.

Also a scientific name is just as likely to change as a common name which gets extremely confusing and are often not accepted when first proposed so a creature can have one or more potential scientific name, or no scientific name at all. (sometimes common names are more steadfast)

It's Cultural Marxism. Polluting young minds starts very early these days.

You're right they can change, though in this case the scientific name has remained constant since the 1780's. The common name was standardised more recently but there's no rule saying people can't still refer to them as Fairy Penguins as an alternative. Many people do, which is fine. In fact on their website, SeaWorld still refer to them as both Fairy and Little Penguin on various pages.

http://seaworld.com.au/rides-and-att...uin-point.aspx

If the offence taken in the story was true, why do we still have Fairy Wrens, Fairy Martins etc as standard common names? It just doesn't make any sense whatsoever. There's a pretty silly implication in the story as well that the gay community may be hyper-sensitive to an established animal name.

It looks like the story started in 2006 with something like the Sunday Mail, perhaps as a beat up after Sea World changed a sign, then picked up by Today Tonight/countless blogs etc. My guess is someone, for whatever reason, told a journalist this was the reason, and the journalist didnt cross-check. Seeing as there are others in the story (Philip Island Nature Park, Melbourne Zoo, "gay community" spokespeople etc saying it came out of nowhere, there was no previous issue and no complaints registered, it has all the hallmarks of a story manfactured out of thin air. But it did gain traction as it seemed to hit the spot with the audience. And as a pleasant bonus for the media channels who aired this important community service announcement, I'm sure it would have helped ratings...
