AU was a different, it was either 'tolerate it' or 'hate it'. Falcon isnt a default family car anymore, it needs to be a bit polarising. |

You can't say that, you'll upset all the Ford haters and trolls on the site.

What's peoples thoughts on a Ford AU designed "Falcon" replacement, manufactured overseas? The ranger gets props for being a Aussie design yet is manufactured off shore.

No props from me for local design with offshore build. I'm a strong believer in keeping local manufacturing alive.
I don't mind if the local design is not connected to the local build - ie local-design-offshore-build blended with offshore-design-local-build. But I wouldn't drop one or the other. That way if the economy ever changes again, we stand some chance of reconnecting the two. Lukeyson

Yes. Australian designed and manufactured Falcon would be great but the realization of something else needs to be accepted. It is a terrible waiting game and a big shame, disappointing, etc but it is becoming inevitable that there will be changes. Enjoy it now and will need to wait to see what happens as it is still quite a while off yet.

I had to walk through the tool room today to go to a meeting, the first time I have been through there in a year or so, and man is it depressing in there.
It used to be a very busy, noisy place. Now the lights are out, no ones around and you could hear the rain on the factory roof its so quiet. Most of the workshops are padlocked shut and all of the presses down that end aren't in operation. It used to be the biggest tool room in the southern hemisphere, now its a ghost town. Very sad. |

FoA was ahead of the game having had some Euro design and manufacturing
processes when the FG was released, in particular the EUCD doors and the RGOR assembly... It sounds like clever preservation of the Falcon by progressively become more like a EUCD-CD4 car regardless of whether it eventually becomes a FWD or stays RWD Lots of tech can be shared with the CD4 program before 2016, all those neat gadgets, electrical wiring harness, maybe HVAC - lots of unseen stuff that saves money without ever changing the functional capability of what we know as a Falcon... A nice, light RWD new era Falcon that weighs not much more than a Mondeo but with much more internal hip and shoulder width, such a car could theoretically be driven by similar engines available in the Fusion/Mondeo range, everything from 2.5 I-4 or 1.6 EB to 2.0 EB, heck even V6 and V8 options if needed.. The most urgent need is to cut the cost of getting a new Falcon to market, closely followed by weight reduction allowing the increased use of up to date Ford engine technology that allows Ford to reposition falcon as the big car with small car fuel economy at a mid sized car price.. |

Hardly surprising, there is nothing there that isn’t already in the public domain. The rest of it is all common sense stuff and theorising for discussion.
We already know Ford won’t be allowing another all-new, Australia only Falcon, they’ve been saying thatfor 2 years now. Given the focus and scrutiny being applied to everything about the Falcon, it is little wonder they are having a weekly hookup to talk about how it’s going and what the future holds. They want to be sure they are making the right decision, whatever that decision may be. Get it wrong, and it could be a costly disaster – something they can’t afford right now.

One of my mates works at Sunbury Ford and he mentioned that they barely sell any Kuga's, they've maybe sold 2 or 3 of them. But EcoLPI Falcon ute is very popular at that particular dealership.

Hey Nikked - I was asked about that CarPoint story today by another journalist. It really is a non-story with not one single quote attributed to a source who is willing to put their name to it.

Thanks. Some up the situation with the press lately, they all seem to like to make nothing out of something. Good to know that Ford PR are keeping an eye on the forums too.

LOL - we're here, we're just careful about interfering too much. In some cases, we can't provide answers to the questions that are being asked for obvious reasons but we're taking notice of what the issues and concerns are - and trying to do something about it where we can.

Irresponsible media speculation gets on our goat too, but I would have thought Carpoint was more credible than the usual suspects *coughFairfaxcough*

Ford would not be down balancing and preparing a 2014 Falcon if they were at a said "tipping point" the idea is ludicrous..
Especially with sales of TDCI and high series Territory so strong and exports beginning to Thailand.. To Ford, the diesel Territory is the financial equivalent of Holden's V8 sales but way more drought resistant... The best we can hope for is steady evolution of Falcon and Territory towards one Ford, replacing unique local parts with say, global wiring harness, switchgear, heating ventillation equipment is all attainable and saves boat loads at redesign stage, maybe Falcon can evolve into 2016 car and pick even more parts being designed for other vehicles elsewhere....
