Handbook for my car states 98 only, with '95 octane to be used in emergencies for less than 1/2 a tank)
So, my Shell Card gets me V-Power, and that makes me happy. My old XR6T's handbook said 95, so that is what its fuel card got... And it was a noticable difference between it and any of the 98's. Used Shell V-Power 'Racing' , the 100 octane with 5% ethanol in it for a period in my pre-fuel card days, and it ran fantastic.

My local BP dumped E10 and went back to plain jane 91....
I only use to use it in the XR6 NA occasionally, either when Premium was sky high or I was doing alot of kms in the one week (like a few thousand). Only run 98 in the GT...

Performance wise is the fallacy if you ask me. Someone said a 5.4l BA "didn't run" on 91? Rubbish. What does that even mean? I know for a fact that Ford tested that engine on 91 at the proving grounds - You Yangs (I have a family member who worked in performance and emissions for 20yrs until 2009). Sure, you can throw a car on a dyno and get a couple of extra kilowatts with a higher octane fuel, I'd still challenge anyone to be able to pick the difference blindly though. That is of course on a car recommended to use 91. Whatever the factory recommends for a particular car is what's necessary. Anything else is pointless in my opinion, and will give only a minute change for a considerably higher price. |

I doubt this will happen in WA as we don't have ethanol fuel anywhere to begin with. I run 98 and LPG anyway in my Territory and my carby XF runs like a pig on anything.

Its like the Leaded Fuel ban all over again.
Cue all the over the counter 'additives' to make your ethanol fuel like 'regular petrol' lol

I would probably use it if its cost reflected its decreased performance. I'm sorry but a 2% decrease in price for a fuel with 4% less energy then normal unleaded, that due to my car being older results in a 10% loss in efficiency is just useless to me.
What the bloody hell happened to freedom of choice? I don't give a rats if the Gov. wants to push renewables, removing its main alternative/competition is rubbish! Isn't Vic at least showing some common sense for a change by reducing the amount of E10 pumps because its simply not selling?

The freedom of choice is an illusion. This "save the environment" grates on my nerves. If they remove 91 Ron I will be forced into 95 which I don't want to do. My falcon runs nicely on 91 ron as is. I won't touch the e10. Wife used it and most likely caused the fuel pump to fail early. Smelt awful to.
Is there actually any point running a NA BA on higher octane? I add a splash of Morely's upper cylinder lube each fill up. I'm getting 11.5L / 100km. Next step would be gas.

Meh, only run the Fiesta on 98 anyway. It is apparently E10 compatible, but the better running (haven't tested that, only experience from other cars I've driven/owned) and economy are enough for me to suck up the extra. Only have regular Caltexes and 7/11s in my area anyway, so they tend to be a bit cheaper than the Coles/Woolies Expresses (no fuel discounts though)
Do think that the corn would be better put to use as aid for developing nations though IMO. After seeing the damage done to a high school friends car from E10 (fuel system needed complete overhaul and partial replacement), I really can't see any advantages to putting it in fuel.

I konw someone who had a BA SR mk1 and it ruined everything containing the word fuel. It only lasted 50 km before it did this and had the take off speed of my headland bomb (1983 hilux 0-100k in 2minutes and quatermile time of 1min 37sec)

This is set for the Courts. As NSW is to go it alone while other states can sell ULP.This sounds like restrictive trading !

cupics last post answered my query. I was wondering if this is only NSW as I havent seen E10 at any servo I've used over the last few years. Thats BPs, Mobils, Uniteds, Caltexs and independants. They all have 91 which is what I use in my BA.

You'll also find that the stickers at the servo's say ' contains up to 10% ethanol'. This is now here as they can't keep up ethanol production to guarantee the full 10%.
One servo here in newcastle (a while ago)had a sticker over the E10 appologizing to customers, that their fuel didn't have ethanol added, therefore, it was regular unleaded. I, personally don't know why there are so many complaint's here. Most of you, no matter what, will run premium. There's probably a large % that have work fuel cards (doe's this affect you?? prob. not. ) One thing that has been proven, is the benifits to smog reduction around major cities. Rio etc. Maybe Gov's could have just implemented this in the cities instead? |

trying to force what kind of petrol people should use is utter crap. What difference will it make? most people on 91 that have *some* knowledge of cars will be forced to upgrade to 95 rather than run e10. Why cant they have all the options there? Have 1 row with 91,95,98 another with diesel, lpg, e10?

Truth be known it was probably more to do with my engine's compression ratio than the fuel, but it's easily done if you have access to a dyno. My old adjust and test method was a pain in the backside... Ed

Reminds me of the change from standard/super fuel to unleaded/premuim unleaded.. Early premium unleaded had significant amounts of additives, including Toluene, which wreaked havoc with the older carby engined vehicles that were the majority of vehicles on the road at the time, dissolving older fuel hoses and causing heaps of fires and breakdowns. Most of those early vehicles could not tolerate unleaded so the owners were forced to use premium unleaded. RAC had a field day rescuing those poor unfortunates.
Over time, the older vehicles gradually disappeared and the issues became no more. Foisting E10 on those who use unleaded fuel, which I would guess would probably make up at least 60-70% (someone help me out here?) of total unleaded fuel useage is just wrong! |

i never use e10. if e10 was so good, they wouldn't need to ban 91 to force people to use e10 instead.

Ethanol is utter rubbish and should be made illegal to sell... Infact remove all emissions laws, all the power sucking pollution gear from cars and bring back leaded fuel
