To the original poster, a resounding YES in 99% of cases.
The cheaper, the uglier I reckon but I'm sure there are some exceptions.

I won't say ugly, but the back end of the new Lancer is BLAND. I like the front end, though, it's got character!

Well the top one (2CV) was meant to be practical, cheap to manufacture and own and put function and cheapness far ahead of style.

The bottom one (DS) is regarded as one of the most beautiful advanced designs of it’s era. If only it had a better engine (and the Safari (wagon version) looked a bit ungainly). Check the price the Poms are willing to pay for a decently restored one nowdays.

I agree with topgear in them saying there aren't that many truely ugly cars these days!

They are all beginning to look fairly good.

Well Ssangyong must of missed out on that memo, designed by imps.

I think the ugly vehicle manufactures I can think of are Smart, (aka Dumb), Mahindra, Ssangyong, Renault, Tata and Chinese Manufactures like Roewe.

Personally I find the X-Trail ugly too. I find the headlights look big and awkward, plus I reckon it's hard to make pillar mounted taillights look good. The Focus and Fiesta get away with it in a fashion, but I'd prefer them to have more conventional taillights.

As Far as I am concerned most small SUVs go in the 'too ugly for me' basket, the only real exception in my opinion is the new Ford Kuga. Actually it isn't only the small SUVs, I think the Toyota Kluger is one of the ugliest new cars around, and they're everywhere.

Perception back in 97/98...the Holden was almighty and the Ford was crappo. Interesting. As I said previously, Drive rated the "Big Four" and the VT finished last with two stars.

Goes to show that perception is not fact.

At TAFE, people reckon I'm really intelligent and way ahead of everybody.

Hmmmmmmmmm...............I'm a Ford man thru and thru, but I could never bring myself to say that the AU " Looks Good ". That was one of Fords biggest mistakes. Thank god they made the BA after the AU but the damage had already been done IMO.............
