I moved out when I was 20, turning 21. I had to make the hard decision to sell a car for the deposit on a 2 bedroom unit. It was a hard decision because the car was the last XB GT 4 speed built. At that point in time, the last manual Ford GT ever built. It was a lovely Walnut Glow and Silver combo with factory chrome bumpers and aftermarket Aunger Hotwires. But then again, the girls liked a bloke with his own place ;)

After I've been looking at a few places I'm just gonna treat it like when I bought a car. Just window shop til I have a decent amount then the right one will come along. Also, with the question about the young blokes with cars, I had 15k when I bought my f6 and the bank was happy to give me a car loan for 50, I only needed another 15 for the car so I got the rest of it from the bank. Had I not bought the car I'd be moved out and probably 30k in the clear from mods and payments, insurance, and other associated costs, but I'm happy I bought it otherwise I would never have gotten to own one and it would forever be the car I wish I'd bought instead of getting a house at the time lol |

I don't have to pay bills so thats where I'm pulling in a lot of cash, even though I'm only on first year apprentice wages, plus my casual job but I try help around the house, I service my parents cars and mow the lawn |

As for the cars, majority are loaned. I knew a guy who still lived at home and had a low paying dead end job and bought himself a new car with a loan. Now he's unemployed and in money trouble. Not very bright with money. |

Moved out at 18 to go to uni, now 23 (will be 24 at the end of the year) and might be moving back in for a little while after finishing uni while I save up for a house deposit.

27, still at home, paying board, and not going to be able to move out any time in the forseeable future.
Can't afford to do it alone in Sydney, but not allowed to leave Sydney because Dad doesn't want me more than an hour's drive away. Also, mum is ultra traditional, and doesn't believe that girls should move out of the family home, until they move in with their husbands. (In which case I'm totally screwed, because that's also not going to happen any time soon)

23 or 24?... I had a simple, self imposed rule however ... Once out, there was NO going back.

23 (when I got married), but really was only ever home between around 12pm and 8am to sleep from when I was 20 odd. From when I was 18 and working, I paid $50 per week board (at the time was earning $250 per week), and board went up to $100 once my wage went over $300 (so I didn't see much of the extra money). But dad did lend me the money to buy my first car (a $1200 1972 Datsun 1200 sedan).
I should have saved heaps living at home, but spent what I earnt and still live like that to a large degree. My brother in law is 45 and still living with his parents!

I'm 21, in my second year of uni with full time-ish job, about to move out of home for the first time with my missus.

Left home at 20, couldn't wait to go and share a house in the slums with my friends. My Mum was sad to see me go, but I think my Dad was relieved to see the back of me, but that was 1968.
I have a 23 year old son still at home who is studying at Tafe, I would like to see him go, but I would also like to see him finish his Tafe course first. |
