Select ‘avoid dirt roads’ in Waze.
Sends me down 200km worth of unpaved road.

And despite someone being home ALL DAY, it ended up being delivered to the LPO. So, I had the pleasure of going to pick up my managed package myself. Great job guys.
I had something similar when I ordered a head gasket for a 6 cylinder Mercedes from rockauto.
They had slightly bent it to fit in the box. I’d have thought they’d known better.
Straightened out via a torque wrench.

Haven’t cleaned yet, but I suspect the alloys received a light sandblasting type effect.

Had it happen a few times though, a couple of years ago I had to turn around 50km into a trip when it sent me down a dirt road in a rental, a Seat Leon. Or whatever they’re called. VW Golf GTi in drag.

No idea what waze is? but I think I need it. An XR50, 200km's on red, WA dirt is as close to heaven as I can imagine.

Hope there was some pea gravel aswell...

Waze is pretty much a license saver, with the increasing amount of ‘safety’ cameras and wildly inconsistent speed limits.
One morning I was following a small late model Kia down the Forest Hwy and Waze alert ‘hazard on road’. I looked up and this Kia was near airborne as it ploughed over a dead roo in the middle of the lane. There was a whole lot of stuff hanging underneath it, so I went passed. It had blood all over the front bumper and the old dude kept driving as if nothing happened.
Also another benefit of Waze, alerts to hazards on the road and potholes.

That dirt road was pretty much all straight (Norseman - Hyden), and in pretty good condition. It cut out 90mins by not going through Perth via GEH, but personally not my idea of fun on low profile 18s in a half decent car.

Sorry to trigger you mate... it looks worse than it is.

I've never felt so alive when I'm doing highway speeds on our famous ball bearing gravel or clay surfaces.

On second thoughts maybe thats not for me. I've still got my commonsense and a passion for driving.
Don't think I'm ready to give up on that and start using an application to drive instead.

A passion for driving in WA? Where they’ve capped the handful of mildly decent roads to 60 or 80 kmh…. Sure.
The app is another form of maps including a true speed readout.
It points out speed limit changes, safety cameras and hidden speed cameras (if reported).
When you’re driving on unfamiliar roads through an area you haven’t been before where speed limits can vary from 60-70-80-90-100 kmh it can be invaluable (don’t be telling us you take note and remember every speed limit change where ever you drive).

Are you kidding?
Speed cameras popping up in half hidden locations changing all the time?
Embrace tech or become a dinosaur.

Yep still got plenty of love for driving in WA.
As for the speed limits thats another yes. I seem to have these things in my head called eyes, somehow when they see a speed sign they tell my foot to lift or depress the throttle pedal.
I don't know the science behind it but it works
And I still have, for sometime now, all of the points on my licence back up the theory.

Right oh
In QLD they hide them behind barriers and trees
Your eyes can’t see them unless you are in a high van bus or lorry

All well and good when you travel roads you’re familiar with every day.
Maybe go over east and travel those roads for a few weeks where there’s changing speed limits and cameras every 5km…. Would likely lose the pretentious attitude pretty quick.

But fella's I was talking about WA roads wasn't I? No need for the tough talk "Why don't you come over here and try that?"

Anyway apologies for the tardiness of my reply.
I was taking a Sunday morning run up West Coast drive in one of my manual, carbureted dinosaurs.
They've recently changed the speed limit along there to 40km/h and installed a few crosswalks.
I exchanged a couple of pleasant waves with some other enthusiasts and even had to share the road with some cyclists.
Don't get me started on that lot though, they don't pay rego
I even left my phone at home.
And do you know what? It was the best fun I've had on the road all week.
I might even fire another one up later and do it all over again, theres still plenty of enjoyment to be had on the roads (here in WA anyway)

Now I know what you're thinking. who's this ****en weirdo right?

To me the sooner they roll out autonomous, electric vehicles the easier and stress free alot of your lives will be.

Yes, particularly for cyclist.

Old bloke who taught me many moons ago chucked me the keys to his WB, told me tot ake it out onto the local backroads and drive as fast as I felt comfortable, his logic was (and proved true) that by the time i got into trouble, all I had to do was get off the loud pedal and let go of the wheel and the ol girl would sort herself out....

Only time it didnt work out was thrashing XE/XF Falcons on dirt roads and my ambition got a little too big for its britches....

My Dad would drive me out to the gravel roads in and around various dairy farms and orchards, we'd then swap seats. It was far enough out of town that only the farmers who lived out there would be on those roads, completely conducive to a learner. I would have been 14 or 15, so underage and without a learner's permit. One of the few perks of country living. I remember this fondly, it was always a Sunday afternoon because on Saturday I'd be at the local football ground mucking about with friends.

But guess what, when I did get my L-plates, I already knew how to handle a car and wasn't jumping into the deep end trying to learn the basics of car control AND traffic/road rules. I also think I got all of the teenage boy driving habits out of my system before getting my P-plates................I wasn't the young buck dropping burnouts on a Friday night.

Went to Melbourne over the weekend to see Jesus Christ superstar (excellent), drove over and stayed in the CBD. Traffic was absolutely astronomical all over, don’t know how anyone lives there.
Took 45mins to pick up my mum and sister at the airport, pick up areas were so poorly signposted and gridlocked at the same time.
What a shithole.
At least other drivers let you in when you indicate, unlike SA.

your talking about Melbin, thats how I feel with Adelaide,

We have to peak traffic times in Lincoln, 15 minutes before and after school. Some delusional knob planned 2 high, 2 primary & junior primary in ONE LARGE block in town.

Funny thing was, the old blokes son was also a senior ambulance officer, who was tasked with teaching me the finer points of driving *in* town, and oh boy did he give me a grilling, "why are you driving over the cats eyes on the road, what are we looking for here, what are the traffic hazards here, how close are you to the car in front and is it an appropriate distance, whats happening 5 cars further along in the traffic, etc"....

…When the proverbial penny is slow to drop.

For decades I’ve struggled to remove the gum left behind when tyre weights are peeled off.

The other day, after once again struggling with this issue on a set of filthy wheels, I wondered - would the soft rubber “pinstripe remover” stripping discs work. A quick google showed it’s a successful and popular method.

At least I’m unlikely to suffer so much in the future. Don’t ever look forward to wheel detailing, but at least this part of the chore should become much easier.

Being a country kid, I learned to drive a car, as opposed to a tractor, at about 12 years old.
I would go out with Dad on jobs with his FC ute and drive that on the pretty crappy dirt roads. Those days any speed above 50mph was getting too fast on the corrugated and slippery gravel, so no speed demon antics.
My most terrifying drive was on a wet black soil road which had a high crown and waterlogged table drain. He instructed me to keep it on the high point, with constant corrections, because if we slid into the table drain, it would be somewhat inconvenient. Passed that test with white knuckles.

99% of today's learners don't get that experience of car control. And I wonder about the professional instructors who advocate sitting close to the steering wheel and shuffling the wheel around corners.
Being able to get from A to B without hitting any surrounds seems to be a major achivement.

At least I’m unlikely to suffer so much in the future. Don’t ever look forward to wheel detailing, but at least this part of the chore should become much easier.

I don't clean my wheels often, but when I do, I clean the outsides

Early 80's my favourite dirt night time "learning" track was Halcrows and Cattai Ridge Rd for our $ydney viewers.

We fellas certainly knew not what to do real fast.

Was a good learning curve which later set me up for high speed courier driving. 3 years in the courier industry was like 20 years driving experience.

My 1st driving was at about 12yo, mates Dad built him a beautiful Jawa powered Go-Cart,
We would run on the local hard but slippery salt pan. Drive there on the road of course with me hanging off the back.
At 15 i "took" Dads beloved SuperBug for a run around the local area. Never got caught out & knew how to operate it from watching him.
Most experience was 18-20yo driving a mid ? 70's Landcruiser ute on dirt - gravel roads out of Kalgoorlie. Didn't get a car licence till i was 20, although the boss out there presumed i did.
