80's and digi cams didnt mix real well. Boxes somewhere though, lol. Howards Astils Falc was very nice - I liked the 1st. Owens Webbs was also sweet. Gary Myers original Black Stang before it was tubbed etc. I also remember a blue XY at the nats which was a sight in the burnouts, cant remember the name though, very nice. Oh and that Green XD/XE with the destroked Clevo and trumpets. |

How about the blown big block chev powered Bronco? Crazy car(?). And hands up anyone who actually saw in person Rick Dobbertins(sp) Ponticac J2000 at the first Summer Nats.

As I was born in 1980 the main one that has stuck in my mind is BLOBAK. Seeing that engine detailed to perfection and just the overall presentation of the car was awesome, and this is coming from a 1 eyed FORD MAN.

I remember Victor Bray in his original mat black '57 Chev (it may of still been street registered then?) doing burnouts on the main road of Natex before the burnout strip was built. There was a rumour that John Peterson was building a replica Zepher to compete in the Summernats again. |

Slightly off topic (OK,. a fair bit OT!) but speaking of 80s how good is TV tonight. Just watched Back To The Future and now I'm watching Blues Brothers. Haven't seen BB since the 80s, ahh the memories! py:

Too right I remember that Bronco! Easternats ,Wagga Wagga "88" It had an injected BDS blower set up b/B chev , was just stunning in presantaion and was doing demo 4 wheel burnouts chained to a tree at the startline for the Go to whao . Was very inpressive till the transfer case blew . I also remember watching Barry from Hume Performance doing burnouts that day in his White with green and yellow graphics Blown B/B , Masive tubb's and barred out HQ coupe! It was built to challenge some XJS12 Jag fag who proclaimed in street machine , his twin turboed V12 jag was the finnest performance car in the land! He never did rise to the challence of Barry and his HQ !

Jeeze , there are so many great cars from the 80's , it is hard to remember one with out remembering others ! Frank Picolo built what is probly my most favourite car of all time ! His XB GT was Orange , Blown and electronically injected , had HUGE rear tyres , slammed , polished B45 simmons and was just so detailed and smooth everywhere you looked . I just love that car ! Street machine Gave that car away too ! HQ 4 U was also one of the greatest 80's streetmachines . Built By Streetmachine magazine It was very before its time , and I think the start of magazine give away's in Aus. The Castrol Coupe was buily by Kev Bartlet and was also worthy of a mention! One HO To Go was awsome as well !
HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmmm......... So many great car , So little time !

Was looking through an old mag on the thinking chair recently, I noticed that the feature cars were seen as powerfull when they had in excess of 180rwhp.... times have changed.

I'm wondering if anyone knows of a green 351 powered Mrk2 Escort that was in an 80's Street Machine issue. I have quite a few old issues still, but can't find that one... Would love to take another look at it, if anyone knows what issue I need??

Loved those blown XT's. Would love a similar car now.
A mate is building a HT four door 80's style, Original Centerlines, mini tubbs and front runners, square letterbox ( complete with MOROSO stickers). Tuff N/A 350, turbo 400, 9" etc. |

A good topic to resurrect, this one, but yep pics are needed. I have heaps of eighties Street Machine and Performance Street Car mags, will see about getting a few cars scanned. For my money one of the best of the era was Gary Myer's black Mustang coupe, a SummerNats Burn-out Comp winner.
