I don't think personalised plates make a difference in people targeting your car (whether it be keying it, or stealing it, or whatever). If you have a nice car, chances are those w@ankers are going to target it anyway, just because it's nice. I've had my "nice" car broken into once, and keyed once, and it doesn't have personalised plates. Though that could just be my misfortune. Really, I think the bottom line is, if you don't want your car damaged or keyed, keep a close eye on it and keep security tight, and park iit in a "safe" place. Really you shouldn't have to do this because no one has the right to touch your car, but the reality is, they do anyway, so it's a small sacrifice to make to keep it safe.

Ok, I'm ramblin so I'll shutup now.

I agree with this. I think if you have a great looking car it is more of an attraction to the rissoles, whether you have fancy plates on it or not. Just try to keep the car in a spot where its less likely to happen.

I have personalised plates I bought over 25 years ago, cost me $25.00 at the time. 2 letters and 3 numbers, black and white, my initials of course. Costs over 3 times that to change them across to another car these days.

I have them and I dont hoon around in my car...however...I have grown up with the philosphy that..if your not hurting anyone then do what you wanna do.Dont worry about what anyone thinks or says..if you like it..get it...if you dont like it but 10 of your mates like it..then dont get it.And as for those mindless morons who like to vandalise other peoples property......By not getting plates if you like them..u are letting those little bastards dictate your life and what you do or dont get....Then ,they win.I personally wont be intimidated or ruled by the foolish, destructive acts of a few pathetic morons.
In closing I would just like to say..a good innsurance company wouldnt go astray.

I have personal plates. The only issue I've had has been with some people not knowing what they mean. KENAZ-8, Kenaz is my nickname and 8 is because it's a V8. Lots of people read the plates as Keen-as-V8.

I have personalised plates - in fact between my partner and I we own 3 different sets.

I love them - I think it gives the car character and certainly don't think it makes the car any more of a target. Fact is this - if someone is going to mess with your stuff then they are going to do it, regardless. Its just unlucky.

As for the boys in blue - my car is bright pink/purple and stands out like you know what.... I don't think the plates are going to make it stand out anymore than it already does on its own. :voldar02:

I think extra peripherals are what atacts the undesireables into keying your car. Stickers with Boys urinating on a Logo, HSV i just ate, beat one, etc...

Simple personal plates probably have no effect.

I want personalised plates but can't afford the $400 at the moment. If I get them, I want to get "Derix". It's my surname (my first name is Michael - Dezza is my nickname). Nothing offensive about that.

I had EKSEFF on my old XF and my mate has them now, and i have PHATEL on the EL atm, it was meant to be PHAT-EL but yeh, can be read either way.
It attracts the wrong attention from people in my area, but ah well, those boys will grow up and own cars one day and realise how stupid they were.

Mine took about 4 business days after ordering them online. I couldn't believe how quick it was, I thought I would be waiting weeks.

I have just bought a new (demo) F6, and dropped my personalised plates off yesterday to be fitted before pickup (tomorrow), only to be told that Vicroads now stipulate that the car must be driven a minimum of 2 weeks on the existing plates before mine can be fitted! :
This "law" has apparently only just came in... Anyone heard of this?

That is crap. I registered my car on monday with normal plates. My new plates arrived yesterday and I assigned them today over the phone. I have to fit the new plates before I can drive it now. I have to leave the old label on the car until a new label arrives in the mail.

I also just rang and I have to do it myself (dealer CAN'T), after I have receipt of purchase. The fee is $93.50
Why I was told 2 WEEKS, I have no idea?

I still cannot justify $495 in Victoria for personalised number plates!
I want BARN5Y...but my driving behaviour needs to improve to warrent personal plates, haven't got a fine in 20 months! :Up_to_som.
They can be very easy to remember as opposed to SSJ402!
