my only comment on euro 3 is that pollution levels in europe and britain are off the scale . so maybe health outwieghs performance . but small australia WTF!!!!

the states had this years ago with the check engine light for removing pollution gear they can remedy this, tuners such as tweecers and resistiors acros sensors fixed that

forget about computer mods for a sec.......
have a thought for the V8 diehards! If you can't modify your exhaust to hear the V8.....why buy one? Is this why FORD introduced a turbo 6 in the BA? It would not be realistic to unbolt a full exhaust system for every service interval...and it would be too obvious out on the streets. do we know for sure that it will be illegal to mod or are we just speculating? If it is true.......i'll move to america : Or hang on to my BA for dear life

Well according to VicRoads it is an unroadworthy office to change the extractors on the car without obtaining an approval certificate stating that it does not adversly affect emissions. Now this statement was only to do with extractors, not cat-back system.
Searching the vicroads shows this regulation easily.

http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/vrpdf/rdsafe/VSI%208.pdf The requirements are easy to follow... 1) Extractor must be appropriate for the vehicle : 2) Have all features and fittings necessary to allow emission control system to be reconnected - (doesn't mention anything about keeping compliance with emission standards.) 3) Describe how extractors should be fitted. : But from what we are speculating here....this will change.

I'm guessing edit should be able to wipe any error codes on the computer. So when the original tune is reloaded nobody would know.

Interesting indeed. It's not just Ford either - the Liberty GT doesn't meet Euro3 and therefore won't be sold from January! This includes the new limited edition model as seen at the motor show, all of which will be landed in the country before January. Unfortunately this means the current model will be removed from sale prematurely, and there will be a period of 8 months or so where there will be no GT on sale until the new 2.5L turbo is released (no doubt with that frinked up new corporate snout).
It will be interesting to see where all of this leads the aftermarket industry, but ultimately if you aren't interested in modifying, then this won't affect you at all. Unfortunately most here are!

Is yor road tax linked up to the cleanest engines here? Does it cost more if yor co2 rating is high?
