I used to say no way to smokers, then changed mind as long as they didnt chain smoke, so I met my wife, she has tried to quit several times woth no luck, so dont think they will drop the habit in a hurry. Never try change a person, love them for who they are, otherwise move on.

Being a semi-social smoker (after a few drinks, I need to "balance" myself by having a smoke in the other hand), it doesn't/wouldn't phase me if the person I was with smoked. Just not in

My ex on the other hand smoked cones. Alot. (ganja bill exceeded V8 fuel bill). That sh*t stinks hardcore, and I'm NOT a fan. :

I couldn't go out with someone who smokes. So much so I hate going to nightclubs these days because of all the tobacco smoke. I hate coming home after a night out at a pub or club and my clothes STINK of tobacoo smoke - I have to put them in another room or in a plastic bag so I don't feel like throwing up because of the stench.

I've even been known to come home and put my clothes in the washing machine and have a shower myself after being a smokey venue.

I hate it when a smoker takes that last inhalation of his smoke, throws it outside the door when getting on the tram and exhales the smoke into the tram and then sit's beside me - clothes, hair, body in general absolutely stinking of tobacco. And these people can't tell how bad they smell! I've nearly thrown up because of it.

Sorry but I like the Japanese way of life with respect to smoking. Only in designated areas. You are not allowed to walk while smoking, you have to stop and smoke at a 'smoking zone'.

In short I couldn't date someone that smoked...

I hate the whole smoking habit, if people want to smoke thats their own choice and thats fine, but i think its a selfish choice. Even just walking down the street, walking behind someone who smokes is terrible. im asthmatic so i guess im definately on the other end of the scale, but i dont see why i have to put up with a face full of smoke just so someone can satisfy their own cravings.

Having said that, my gf is a smoker. She doesnt want to smoke and is trying to give up, i have no problems being the punching bag while she quits, just so long as she does.

my 2 cents

Having once been a smoker myself, I'm still a bit immune to secondhand smoke. I have been out with a girl who smoked, and it never bothered me really.

valid point , but how many close things to you give off just as harmfull effects . smoking broken down in ppm - parts per million less than 5 %
car exhaust ulp ppm - less than 30%

I'm not sure what the exact rule is there, but I went out Saturday night to a club and smoking was allowed. But I've been to some places in Vic where it's not allowed, so I don't know what goes.

I came home and had to sleep inhaling my girlfriend's tobacco-flavoured hair, and she has a lot of bloody hair on her head!! She doesn't smoke.

BTW, I agree that garlic breath and BO is repulsive too. I'm very concious about my personal hygience and make sure it doesn't affect others ie. I will never leave the house without deodorant, and I always mouthwash, brush my teeth and chew gum because I know how bad breath can smell.

Myself no, I haven't smoked anything before and I wouldn't like dating with a smoker, way I was brought up I guess. Although quite a few of my friends smoke.

you both missed the point . how much do you need to harm you . lot more cars polluting the air than smokers and then theirs industry pollution etc. good example . my mother lived in prospect nsw and smoked, and was diognosed with infacemia . dad thought it best that one thing they wanted to do before she passed away was to move to the country. 13 years ago that was and mums as healthy as no more infacemia over time and still smokes (lot less) . what caused her illness to trigger , obviously not cigarettes.

I dont think i missed the point at all, theres a bucket load of stuff out there causing damage. Cars trucks factories, however the point i think you missed was that they are producing something, they have a benifit. smoking has none, and considering this thread was about smoking, that was the point.

I understand where all you non-smokers are coming from. Me, as a smoker, at times cant stand the smell of cigarette smoke, especially when I am eating. So if I got out with my friends and we sit outside(just so I can smoke), and someone on my table or a table close by starts eating, I stop smoking. If someone says that ciggy stinks!, I just put it out. I have tried to quit a few times but in the end my friends tell me to start again cos I get a bit irritable.

As far as dating a smoker??? Being a smoker I wouldn't care. If I was able to quit, then I would not date a smoker

So i take it all the non smokers don't leave the house and go out anywhere? Where do most of you work? you would be surprised what you can't see and yet you breath it in everyday. If i am around non smokers i will not smoke around them or if in a pub i don't smoke but the drinking makes up for that. If my girlfriend smoked and i didn't wouldn't worry me and i wouldn't nag her to give it up her choice.

You could miss out on the girl of your dreams!! shouldn't matter if she or he smokes as long as it is not in the car. Got to draw the line somewhere

Is this topic about dating a smoker or whether smokers are discusting?

If it is as per the title then Kev settle down, every reply you have given is defensive and off topic.

To answer the topic question. I prefer the non smoker girl as I am a non-smoker. My last was a smoker and she smoked more when drinking to the point where I'd have to get up and move away. The smell stays aroung for ages in clothes and stains too.

That would be smoking at places that serve food that was banned.

Nightclubs now have the right to say they are smoke free and enforce it - but it is rare to say the least.

Try and go to a sporting match at the MCG - it is meant to be no smoking in the stands, but plenty do. And there is nothing more annoying than sitting around for 8 hours watching a ODI cricket match with smokers exhaling down your neck. I've ripped cigarettes out of peoples mouths and thrown them onto into the gutter over the fence. Mind you this is after I have politely asked them to stop and showed them the no-smoking sign, after I have asked the police to ask them to stop and show them to no smoking sign and after I threaten them.

You will be amazed how much someone still flinches when you warn them your hand is coming to take something out of their mouth.

But what part of the classification of the "girl of your dreams" is a non-smoker?

Certainly is for me - and i've got her. She might not be perfect to someone else, but to me she is. Extra benefits includes that she works at Ford and loves driving a manual V8 :monkes:

I pity the fool who cuts 30% out of the dating pool by giving smokers the flick.

Yet another typical sign of our "PC", metro-sexual, have-a-bloody-whinge-about-anything-and-everything society.

Does everyone in this country have sand in their bloody vagina or what?? These are things you consider important?!?!

Crikey.

I consider being healthy and not (potentially) smelling foul important. So why bag me out for it?

My opinion is just as valid as yours.

I'm an ex smoker. Almost 5 years now. Personally, I don't have a problem with it. You want to smoke, your choice. Sometimes I just wish the people that protest the most would just shut it.
