UK Independence Party leader Nigel Farage declared the result as "a victory for ordinary, decent people".
Brexit 'an adventure into the unknown'

The full ramifications of the UK exiting the EU will be played out in years not days, writes the ABC's chief foreign correspondent Philip Williams.

"It is a victory against the big merchant banks, against the big businesses and against big politics," he said.
"And I'm proud of everybody that had the courage in the face of all the threats, everything they were told, they had the guts to stand up and do the right thing."

Great start of the EU reno. Whole place needs to start taking notice of what it CITIZENS want, not what the banks and big buisiness wants. ........we all live in a community not an economy....... only labour party policy worth voting for is Banking Royal Commision.

It's only those Sinn Féin *****, who (in between murdering school-children) have been calling for a United Ireland since they decided to split from the UK.

Much is made of the fact that Northern Ireland is the only part of the UK with a land-border with another country. But when you consider the Chunnel, all the ferries, and the fact that you can literally cross the channel in anything that floats (including a Nissan ute) England's border with France is more significant.

At the end of the day, "Democracy" is about self-determination. The EU has wasted far too much time and effort on enforcing irrelevant standards. Preventing people from growing tomatoes and vegies that weren't sanctioned, mandating meat levels in sausages, making the poor old folks use metric instead of pounds, etc, etc. Ultimately really trivial stuff that has ****** the Brits off no-end.
More recently the strong Pound has seen unemployed Europeans flooding into the UK looking for work, and they're sick of it.

I lived in London between 08 to 13, and I'm not surprised they voted out. In fact I'm surprised it was that close, would have expected something like 60-40. The OUT sentiment was there already at the time. And it is NOT all because of immigration.

The EU commission were bullying them with many policies that did not make any sense, and the Brits did not like an unelected commission dictating the terms.

It would be like Australia signing up to an AsiaPac union, and having China and India dictating policies for us.

As one lady being interviewed on Sky News UK said,they are just fed up with all the mass Immagration coming to the UK,as she said we "want our country back.(and this started when they joined the EU in January '73) & also the way they seem to be "dictated" to by Brussels(Boris even mentioned this.) Far as I am concerned, good on them.And you know what?It will all work out in the end

Brexit is a crushing victory for the people against the establishment. Get used to it. There are many more to come. The global elitists won't accept this decision, and they'll fight it.

Nigel Farage is spot on with his sentiments of the EU.

Donald Trumps' popularity serves to demonstrate the general population don't believe the narrative being dictated by mainstream media at the instruction of their pay masters. People are sick and tired of the career politicians and the political apparatchik.

Actually,- the multicultural and mass-immigration agenda you describe was first imposed on Germany some 65 years ago, it was then 'adopted' into the remainder of the western powers circa 1960's and 70's. Hopefully, for everyone's sake, the financial markets will come to grips with this and settle down. I really don't think this is big enough for worldwide markets to be melting down.

What it means for Britain, long-term, I'm not sure. If Scotland decides to have another vote, and votes for secession, that will weaken the UK economy. I don't know enough about the factors in play to predict one way or the other.

Hi Mate, you are just down the road from me.

I don't know if I did the right thing but took the safe option. It may have cost me 30k in earnings but that's better than a 20k loss so I did what I did. It will come back but I am to close to retirement to take risks. It is frightening though.
